Hello gentleman, I am knee deep in thought, wracking my brain to make an 833 function behind a magnum 5.9 with factory injection. So now I am thinking maybe the bellhousing out of a pre-magnum truck. I can't find any info... Checking Rockauto, it shows a 79 Ramcharger as using an 11" clutch. Would that be a 143 tooth flywheel? If so logic would say, a truck/Ramcharger bellhousing would work?
Thanks

a833OD??? the 833od used a 10.5" clutch. That would be 130 tooth count

when I went a833OD behind my 318 (same as 360) I had to get a different bell housing. I got it off moparts. Also had to get a new 10.5" flywheel (my truck had a 11" flywheel originally)

I believe the regular a833 used a 10.5" clutch also(?)unless you happened to have a dual mount bell housing(?)

the 833od has a larger bearing retainer i seem to remember. the regular a833 may share the same size bearing retainer as an a230 or a745.

i went from a 3 speed behind my 318 to the 833od and could NOT use the original bell housing (bolt pattern for the trans was different)

probably added more confusion, just posting what I ran into when putting an a833OD behind a small block

OH and I am reinstalling this trans behind my 360. I just actually got the flywheel I needed from summitracing.

Use a car bell housing with a 130T wheel.
Truck bells are for the NP 435/445 tranny and use the 143T except for the 833OD housing.

Thanks Moparmark, but that won't work either. The 5.9 magnum has notches in the flywheel that the computer reads, so I need to use its 143 tooth flywheel, just trying to find a bellhousing that will work. I don't want to hack up my tunnel and trans mount for a different manual trans. sigh. The search continues.

I've been researching this matter myself. Thinking about a 5.9 stroked to a 408 with a Passion 855 5spd for my Dart.
My understanding is that a machinist could machine the notches in the flywheel or you could use a front mounted crank sensor.
I don't know of any factory 143T housing for the 833. Maybe an aftermarket steel housing?

Okay, here's what you need to do. Hopefully your have the ability to engineer this. You need a truck bellhousing that fits the truck 4 speed trans. The one with bulldog first gear. That is the only bell you can use with the 11" clutch. Lucky for you the 833od and the truck trans. both have the same size hole for the retainer. You'll need to drill the top 2 holes and bolt the top 2 in with bolts from the inside. You will then need a small piece of flat steel and 2 grade 8 bolts, nuts, washers. Flip the unit, cut the heads off the bolts. You are going to notch out the spots in the steel so you can weld the studs into the plate. Then you will need to bolt those onto the trans. Then drill the plate and the bottom side of the bell and bolt the plate you made with the studs on it onto the bell. I'll try and post some pics. I had to do this on the shortbed I built. It can be done with a little work and it's safe and strong. I ran my truck like I stole it and never had an issue. And it had 33x21.50's on it!

Kenworth goose, I think I am following what you are saying. Either way, you have emboldened me to get a bellhousing and work it out. I will be contacting you with questions once I have both pieces in my meat hooks. Thank you

KWG is right on. I drilled the top two. Made a bracket that bolted to the inspection cover holes. I used mine for 3 years and I wasn't nice to it, finally sold the truck.

Just find an 89/90 Bellhousing. There's one with the 833/od and NP435 pattern on the same bell. Its a Hydraulic clutch setup.

Have a machine shop turn down the diameter of the magnum flywheel to fit the 130t starter teeth wheel and drill the correct holes for the 10.5 inch clutch.

Thank you for the additional input gentlemen. 73mag, I will investigate that option as well. That will be a last resort for me. I'm trying not to have custom carved hard parts that will be expensive and or time consuming to get replaced if necessary. I found a bellhousing, don't know the year and the info about the 89, was 24 hours late. lol. That's ok I got the bell for a good price, once I have it in hand and can look at the two pieces together, I'll contact you, KW, if I have issues. Again thanks to all of f you for the help.

Well as of now, I have two bellhousings in transit. One is the pre-magnum truck bell as shown in KWGoose's pics. The 2nd is some kind of anomaly. The prior owner told the guy I bought it from it was stock to his early 90's Dakota. It is a fully enclosed bell with a dust cover like an auto trans. It is actuated by a hydraulic slave cylinder. It has a center register hole, unlike what an AX15 Dakota bell has. The register measures 5.125 like an 833od, and it has four bolt holes in the corners. Scratching my head. The original owner claimed it was stock to his early 90's dak, and he put a 340 in front of it, and used an 833od. We will see about that. However judging by the pics, there seems to be plenty of real estate to weld and drill, in the event the 4 bolt holes aren't right. Stay tuned!

the pre magnum dakotas used a different trans than the ax15,it had a separate bell and was hyd, thats probably what yours will turn out to be
i rebuilt a couple of those years ago but dont remember what the trans name was was!

my ladder of success is missing some rungs
