I like how 100 people run to the car, but no one grabs an extinguisher...
And I thought the outlaw events up here were a zoo...

Glad nobody got hurt, but the term "crowd of idiots" comes to mind. Stuff like this almost makes me embarrased to identify myself with this hobby.

That video was a big money run for the person who crashed. Gonna cost him some big money to fix his car!

I get what you are saying but the crowd doesn't always reflect on the drivers at these kind of races. Have you ever raced your car and seen some ricer kid at the track? A loud drunk?
Then you must be a loud drunk ricer (by your logic that is)

if you run your car at a track like that with people everywhere and something breaks or goes wrong and kills somebody who do you think they will go after? so yes it does reflect on the driver.

I wouldnt bring myself or car to that track. That is crazy all the people around the start line. I wouldnt mind driving my truck through there about 80 mph just to clean out the starting line a little.

If I witnessed A loud drunk at my track, I'd see it as the minority, and I wouldn't see it for long. But in this case, its not ONE cling-on idiot standing at the line.... Its like 100 of them. And I see not one track official or safety personnel anywhere. So I think your analogy is a bit out of whack here. To be frank and clear: In my mind, if you stage your car in the midst of what we see here, you ARE one of the idiots.

Milan get almost this bad at the No ET and grudge events...
People were close enough to the quarter panel to lean on it while I was in the water box...now I just go to spectate, as I'm not fast enough to take anyone's money
Thats why I dont go to the NO ET or grudge stuff.. no way would I race it.. even if I were quick enough.. who will be first on the list to SUE when someone gets killed... I cant afford to loose everything

Yes that's real good, let's mow people down the with your truck because you disagree with where they want to stand. Yes don't go to a different track just make people conform to your standards or drive over them.

http://yellobellydragstrip.net/main/index.htmlI think it's pretty cool.... would love to make a pass there, if nothing else, just to say I did! TX: Police Say Wrong Man Arrested In Fatal Drag Strip Stabbing FULL TEXT BELOW: "Dallas police said they arrested the wrong man in connection with a fatal stabbing at the Yellow Belly drag strip after witnesses provided information that led them to a new suspect." "Police have now dropped the charges against Raymond Longoria and have arrested Daniel Barrientez." "Officials said a witness came forward with a video tape of Kevin Tucker being stabbed. Investigators said the tape showed the wrong man being arrested." "Barrientez is now charged with the murder of Kevin Tucker." "Investigators said Barrientez's brother, Dallas police Sr. Cpl. Patrick Barrientez, may have driven him from the scene after the offense occurred. Patrick Barrientez has been placed on restrictive duty with the Dallas Police Department." "Daniel Barrientez's bond has been set at $100,000. "Investigators are asking for more witnesses to come forward to aid in the case."

I have been there a few times and never felt I was in any kind of danger. It is a cool old track, it is an Outlaw track, I think that says it all. Anything goes on the track for sure.

FWIW they use metal detectors at LVMS on Midnight Mayhem and other events as well. Just sayin I have attended a lot of grudgenights at a lot of different tracks. I would say most are at best somewhat organized chaos. Generally the starting line area is packed with people and there is always at the very least one fight. I have also been at San Antonio Raceway when the police had to be called and the night was shut down due to some violence in the pit area. Must say HMP is not far from Yellowbelly in terms of atmosphere and they wreck as many cars as any track I have seen.

A friend of mine and I went out to the old NAS that was west of YB by a couple of miles. We watched the F-14s take off and land. On the way back I asked if he wanted to stop at YB and watch. He was tired, so we drove back to Dallas. Good thing as someone was shot and killed there that day.
Maybe they should put a gun range next door or metal targets on the back of the cars so people can have something to sight their guns.

Mostly blacks at our local track back when they would let them do that. Most/all were gambling. They have cracked down on people in the waterbox nowadays, unless they have some reason to be there.

That starting line scenario can and DOES happen at tracks all the time, regardless of sanction. I have seen crowds just like that on the starting line of NHRA national event tracks, just NOT during an NHRA event. Tracks that routinely have "Outlaw" and "Grudge" events, routinely have that on the starting line. Many times a grudge race "promoter" simply rents or leases the track for his event. Security, emergency services, etc, or lack thereof is his responsibility.
A track like Yellow Belly, is primarily an outlaw track. You know what you are getting into when you roll in the gate. Don't like it, DON'T GO, its really that simple. While those type crowds get really annoying at times, if you run at any big money grudge or outlaw races, you WILL see it and see it often. Now while the crowd MAY be filled with "idiots" as some here are calling them, there will also be MANY very well known tuners, chassis guys, engine builders, etc, in those crowds, because that is where some BIG money is.
I have been to races like this and seen David Reher, Gene Fulton, Charlie Buck, Frank Manzo, Phil Shuler(owns a grudge car), Tim Richards, etc and the list goes on and on.

Monte.. I can see 3 or 4 guys at the line IF they are involved with the car(engine builder,or chassis guy) but not 50 people... you wont ever find me there.. and yes those are idiots out past the line... we all know things can and do happen... it would be my luck to run over one of the idiots and then get sued

That might be why NHRA is expensive, time consuming, and difficult to pass tech. At least it keeps those type fools away. Same principle a country club operates on.
Like it or not, in both cases it keeps the riff raff away lol.
WOW...And who are these's fools and Riff Raff you Talk about???

It's been almost 8 years since I lived in DFW. The place has had a bad reputation for a long time. I had no idea that Yello Belly was still open. I kind of figured that all the regulars had met untimely deaths and the place had just kind of faded away.
