That is incredible on too many levels

and it should be obvious to all here that this is not how to run a race.

Where is that track? It looks awfully dark thier Isn't that Malibu street raced by a bunch of black guys in New York City?

Re: Yello Belly crash, again - 02/10/15 03:01 AM

It is in Grand Prairie, Tx. I think 1/8th mile now. Outlaw track with a ruff rep.

Everyone up north come on down to North Texas. It was in the 70s today. Bring your car, cash, guns, bullet proof vests and helmets. I've heard that YB is between Grand Prairie and Dallas and neither police department will touch YB. There used to be a lot of junk yards west of the track. I haven't been over there in 20 years.

Re: Yello Belly crash, again - 02/10/15 05:37 AM

After seeing how worried they were for the safety for all involved.... I'm REALLY surprised they didn't let them line the entire length of the track with people. It would certainly have softened the severity of the car's impact with the wall!

Glad the guy got out OK and that nobody else got ran over either. LOL

Re: Yello Belly crash, again - 02/10/15 09:15 PM

I watched the video embedded on the track's webpage. My favorite part was the guy on the sportbike running against a pickup in the other lane. No leather jacket on the motorcycle rider, just a T-Shirt and he get majorly crossed-up, over-corrects and ends up in the Pickup's lane a couple feet away from him.

I get what you are saying but the crowd doesn't always reflect on the drivers at these kind of races. Have you ever raced your car and seen some ricer kid at the track? A loud drunk?

Then you must be a loud drunk ricer (by your logic that is)

if you run your car at a track like that with people everywhere and something breaks or goes wrong and kills somebody who do you think they will go after? so yes it does reflect on the driver.

I wouldnt bring myself or car to that track. That is crazy all the people around the start line. I wouldnt mind driving my truck through there about 80 mph just to clean out the starting line a little.

If I witnessed A loud drunk at my track, I'd see it as the minority, and I wouldn't see it for long. But in this case, its not ONE cling-on idiot standing at the line.... Its like 100 of them. And I see not one track official or safety personnel anywhere. So I think your analogy is a bit out of whack here. To be frank and clear: In my mind, if you stage your car in the midst of what we see here, you ARE one of the idiots.

We sign a waiver before we make it in the gate taking 100% liability. I've actually been in and to events like this, it can be annoying but usually there is some form of crowd control.

Yellow Belly has been in business since 1955 and is legendary, both good and bad...lots of old bracket racers I know used to run out there. I've never been there because I've never been a fast heads up racer but if I was it might be fun to try it at least once...not sure how fun it would be if you started taking peoples money.

How would you feel if you saw one of your kids standing there in that video? How would you feel if you saw a video of one of your kids jumping off a building roof into a wave pool at a public amusement park?

Allowing people to do unsafe things on your property is negligence. That's why the sign says "by order of the fire marshal". I'm almost surprized the guy that owns that place has not been shut down, but after reading the above report about the police officer I am not.

FWIW they use metal detectors at LVMS on Midnight Mayhem and other events as well. Just sayin

I have attended a lot of grudgenights at a lot of different tracks. I would say most are at best somewhat organized chaos. Generally the starting line area is packed with people and there is always at the very least one fight. I have also been at San Antonio Raceway when the police had to be called and the night was shut down due to some violence in the pit area. Must say HMP is not far from Yellowbelly in terms of atmosphere and they wreck as many cars as any track I have seen.

A friend of mine and I went out to the old NAS that was west of YB by a couple of miles. We watched the F-14s take off and land. On the way back I asked if he wanted to stop at YB and watch. He was tired, so we drove back to Dallas. Good thing as someone was shot and killed there that day.

Maybe they should put a gun range next door or metal targets on the back of the cars so people can have something to sight their guns.

Re: Yello Belly crash, again - 02/12/15 10:16 PM

That starting line scenario can and DOES happen at tracks all the time, regardless of sanction. I have seen crowds just like that on the starting line of NHRA national event tracks, just NOT during an NHRA event. Tracks that routinely have "Outlaw" and "Grudge" events, routinely have that on the starting line. Many times a grudge race "promoter" simply rents or leases the track for his event. Security, emergency services, etc, or lack thereof is his responsibility.

A track like Yellow Belly, is primarily an outlaw track. You know what you are getting into when you roll in the gate. Don't like it, DON'T GO, its really that simple. While those type crowds get really annoying at times, if you run at any big money grudge or outlaw races, you WILL see it and see it often. Now while the crowd MAY be filled with "idiots" as some here are calling them, there will also be MANY very well known tuners, chassis guys, engine builders, etc, in those crowds, because that is where some BIG money is.

I have been to races like this and seen David Reher, Gene Fulton, Charlie Buck, Frank Manzo, Phil Shuler(owns a grudge car), Tim Richards, etc and the list goes on and on.

Monte.. I can see 3 or 4 guys at the line IF they
are involved with the car(engine builder,or chassis
guy) but not 50 people... you wont ever find me there..
and yes those are idiots out past the line... we all
know things can and do happen... it would be my luck
to run over one of the idiots and then get sued

That might be why NHRA is expensive, time consuming, and difficult to pass tech. At least it keeps those type fools away. Same principle a country club operates on.

Like it or not, in both cases it keeps the riff raff away lol.

WOW...And who are these's fools and Riff Raff you Talk about???

It's been almost 8 years since I lived in DFW. The place has had a bad reputation for a long time. I had no idea that Yello Belly was still open. I kind of figured that all the regulars had met untimely deaths and the place had just kind of faded away.

You being a Detroit area racer - you had to have went to Detroit Dragway for their T-N-T Tuesday night "events" at least once. Gates closed at 9, so about 8:30 you would see a parade of the Detroit street racers come in, bypass tech, and go to the line and put on a circus act that P T Barnum would have been proud of. Saw a lot of cash and fists exchanged in the staging lanes there.
