Hi everyone, im currently assembling a 440 for my dart and need help choosing a cam for it. Its going to mainly be a street car but I also want it to preform well at the strip. Keep in mind im at 6000ft altitude! Im wanting to get into the 11s if possible but yet attain good driveability. Heres the setup so far: -Stock bore 440, forged crank, LY rods with arp bolts, 10.1 compression -Ported 213 heads, stock valves, comp retainers/locks/springs -Holley Street Dominator intake -2" headers -4500 8" dynamic stall, 3.91 gears -3200lb Dart I was looking at the Comp xe275HL cam, or a similar lunati 276/284 cam. Let me know what you all think as far as what cam I should use. Thanks!

I would look at the next bigger Comp Cams grind XE285HL instead, I have similar motors with both cams, one with the XE295HL also The bigger XE285HL makes more HP and torque than the smaller one your wanting to use Racing and driving at your altitude ends up making the motor struggle to fill the cylinders with air and fuel, especially at WOT. A motor like your building needs all the help it can get to make power.I live at 4300 Ft and race at 2500 Ft where the density altitude will go up to 4000 Ft density altitude during the summer. This is a peice of cake to race at compared to LACR in Palmdale SO CA where I use to race at when the density altitude would be 4500 Ft at 10:00 AM and be at 7700 Ft at 3:30 in the afternoon in the summer Your converter and gear will help you a bunch What size carb and rear tires are you running?

Ran the XE275HL in my 440 Valiant. Went low 12s-12.0 all day. switched to the Comp XS290 mechanical and now runs low 11s.

With the 2"tubes and that converter I would go with the XE295 Comp cam but I would ditch the TQ carb and go with an 850 Holley The smallest carb I would consider is a 750 from Quickfuel. Gus

This is the cam I'm running and you can run a single on it, 252/260 @ .050 540/558 lift, 110 LSA. Haven't had it to the strip yet but it runs real strong and turns 6.5-7K like a switch, really strong top end. The duals comp recommends (925)for it are milder than many singles.
IMO even at sea level you will not get an 11 second slip with the cam you're looking at. You will need closer to 245-250. If you don't want to splurge for adjustable valve train the Comp Magnum series are decent cams for single springs (the 292 may fit the bill for you with 244 @ .050 and will take a single spring, stock rockers fine) or the tried and true DC 509, or the Comp version of it.
