Just thought I'd alert you thermoquad fans. Carbs are old stock rebuilt. Look real nice. I took a chance and they took the 75.00 offer. Seemed like a good deal. I'll save it for later when I get a spreadbore manifold. They are listed under Dodge Charger Fury Duster 4bbl carburetor.

great. Cant hardly go wrong for $75. You gonna open it up & check the float level & see if it's clean inside or was it wrapped up.

Well, It's not in my hand yet but the pics look good. I'll go through and check things anyway. I just figured it's worth 75.00 as a core. If it's perfect all the better!

Nacho has a good point, $75.00 is a good buy for any new carb, but how useful it will be to you will depend on your application. Smog era TQ's are not a great carb out of the box for any kind of performance application, here are some notes from fellow board member Demonsizzler's website, he does a good job of explaining why. If you bought an earlier model (also explained on Demonsizzlers site) you'll have made an even better buy

The 75'-84' smoger models

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In 1975, the carbs tops/bowls were changed. This was the end of the non smoger carbs and the begining of the smoger carbs, the first of the 9000 series. *The acception is the 1974-1977 Mopar Truck 440 cu in carbs which were based on the 1974 carbs. For the first time, very lean circuitry was used for less exhaust emissions, rendering these carbs poor performers on non smoger engines. These carbs have a distinctive vertical flat boss on the front center of the top plate which remained through 1984 and were again available in 800 and 850 cfm's. The 1976 carbs were the same as the 75's but for the first time, used a vacuum solenoid attached to the vertical boss on the front of the top plate. Some of these carbs did not have an idle speed screw or a vacuum port for the distributor vacuum advance on the Mopar lean burn ignition. I.H. used the carbs through 1979. This same design was used through early 1978 and again changed in late 78' through the final run in 84'. Many changes took place on the late 78' to 84' carbs due to smog regulations including electric idle enrichment solenoids added to the vertical flat boss on the front of the top plate and extra ports added to the base plate and even leaner circuitry. In 1979, a final aftermarket T.Q. was available and is known as the SuperQuad, only available as an 800 cfm with the integral 12 volt choke like the 74' Ford carb had. This S.Q. carb was a direct replacement for all oem carbs and was part # 9800/9810, non egr/egr for Ford, GM and I.H. engines and 9801/9811 for Chrysler non egr/egr engines.

The listing says the carbs are for 76-77 Chryslers with 360 and 400 cu in engines.

I can't tell by looking what flat boss they are talking about. Can you look at the pics and tell?

Of course. Its directly in front of the front vent pipe, between the two front screws. Its where the I.E. valve would be

The last TQ I bought was one from Koffel. It was listed as a 9801S, but turned out to be a 9000 series, regular production carb. I ended up keeping it anyway, but still was disappointed. Some guys don't know TQs very well, particularly the old Chrysler racers. I had a conversation with McCandless many years ago and was discussing the SB rocker shafts and he didn't know the 273 shafts had the oiling groove in them. They may know Hemi's real well, but some of the lesser engines they never messed with them at all.

Not from picture, lean burn has no idle speed adjustment on throttle shaft.

That carb has no timed vacuum port for vacuum advance, but even if you would decide you dont want to use it, many of the parts have value. (new floats, needle-seats, metering rods, jets, choke pull off, bowl) The early and late bowls are not interchangeable though.

I purchased some earlier style reman carbs a while ago. Early bowls are no longer available, and when they were, some where priced well over $100)

About 15 years ago one of the mopar mags showed how and where to drill and install a vacuum port for vacuum advance on a smog thermoquad. Very very easy. I think it was done by Rick Ehrenberg..Spelling?? The green brick guy.

Keep old mopars alive.

You can also install an idle speed screw, drill and tap a hole through the boss.

The vacume advance slot is still in the throttle plate you just drill a hole where the factory vacume port is and it goes into a chamber already in the casting and press in a tube to atatch a vacume hose.

Thanks, for that info Hotroddave. I want to try this carb on my 408. I have a 650 Holley on it now and I've been able to get 20+ miles per gallon. If I can get a couple more MPG I'll be
