With all the metal work done on my Duster and a limited amount of body work to complete, its time to get serious about wheel and tires. I prefer to run a staggered wheel tire combination, but am open minded. I just have a real personal problem with running a really wide tire up front. Im probably going to run a Bullet wheel and really like the American Muscle matt black wheel as my car will be painted bright white with a matt black 340 stripe and the V24 blackout hood. So here is what Im thinking for a serious street handling 6.1 Hemi Duster:
1971 Duster, 6.1 Hemi, Passion 4-speed overdrive
Front: 13 disc brakes on 73-76 spindles Hellwig 1.25 55907 tubular sway bar with either 1.00 1.06 Torsion bars from Firm Feel Bilstein shocks all around Custom rear springs from Peter Bergman lowered 1 with Dr Diff offset A-Body spring hangers (42 on center) 68-70 B-Body 8 Ύ 60.5 wide with Dr Diff 11.7 discs
Combination #1 26 tall: Front: 225/45-18 on a 8 wide 5.7 backspace / 30mm offset Rear: 255/40-18 on a 10 wide 7.3 backspace / 45mm offset (Is this wheel to wide?)
Combination #2 25.7 tall: Front: 245/40-18 on a 9 wide 6.2 backspace / 30mm offset (Is this wheel to wide for the front?) Rear: 275/35-18 on a 10 wide 7.3 backspace / 45mm offset (Is this wheel to wide?)
So tell me what you guys think!

I've been running 245 45 17s on mustang bullets all around on my duster. After a while I thought they looked too small on the back. I have factory 11 3/4" discs I'm not running a spacer on the front, and they rub just enough on the frame rail to take off the paint. I guess at bump and full lock.

245/40/18 on a 9" fit easily on my car. I am running a 255/40-18 (26") on a 9" wheel on the front but did some subtle alterations to the wheel arch for extra clearance. My car's sheet metal is different than your's, so you will need to look to fellow Duster owners or sort it out on your own. Get w/ Uhcoog1, he is in your area is he not?

Michael,
I've driven Wade's Duster and spoken with him and Alex about my build. Im fortunate to have these guys in my backyard as they have both been very gracious with their time.
For a staggered setup, combination #1 would probably not require any modifications to body work and would look closest to a stock type setup. Question is, do I need 10 rims in back and how much cornering ability do I leave on the table with a 225/40 front tire?
I think combination #2 may also fit with just rolling the quarters and fenders. Im also not sure if going with a staggered approach is going to create massive understeer that can be corrected with a rear swaybar.
In the next month I intend to mockup the front and rear suspension before paint and determine what will work best and if any modifications need to be made. I am also going to roll the quarters and front fenders. If we need to cut the front fenders Im going to follow the method you described in your post on Moparts as it looks almost stock. Y'all need to update your picture as well!

James,
What are the width, backspace and offset of your wheels? Are you running a stock A-Body rearend?

"a real problem" running wide front tires? Is this personal, or space limited? Based on your bold editing of "personal" I surmise for clarification, not sure I can offer much advice to resolve your situation.

Reality check, that half the population is smarter then 50% of the people and it's a constantly contested fact.

offer still stands Brian- you can borrow a wheel and tire (or a set) to test fit with.
Currently mounted, can't go without long: 18x9.5, 35mm offset, 275/40-18 Nitto nt05 (will be coming off soon- will be replaced by Hoosier 285/645/18) 18x9.5, 45mm offset, 265/40-18 (michelin PSS) 18x9.5, 45mm offset, 265/40-18 (sumitomo HTR ziii)
Can borrow for as long as you like: Spare 18x9.5, 45mm wheel (slightly bent)- spare continental scrub (275 35 ish?)
