Is anyone running either of these? What is your experience from the switch? Looking into this to calm the Duster down at the launch a bit and hook more consistent.

Just some math here. The 2.10 will take 14 percent of the launch torque away, the 2.28 a lot less. How expensive are those gear sets? I was thinking of going down from 4.56 rear gears to 4.10 at one time to help my deal.

I put a set of 2.28s in Larry Boyd's car, and he love it. make a big difference on the launch.

Thats just a rear planet change right John? So it would be 2.28/1.45/1:1

7% just doesn't sound like a lot to me but it may work.

The 2.28 is a helical cut correct? How much HP will it handle (I know thats a tough one to answer LOL) Is it steel or Aluminum? I guess if its as strong as the stock 4 gear rear planet we have now it should work fine.

ya its 2.28/1.45/1:1 helical cut Aluminum rear 4 pinion planet, sun gear, and ring gear can take, I would say if the car is 3500lbs and under, 1200HP anything over that, I would go straight cut gear set.

We are 2850# with me in it and around 800 HP so sounds like it would work fine.

I have the A&A 2.28 helical 1st gear in my 727; and it retains the 1.45 2nd gear ratio. This was around $700 when I bought it. It replaces the REAR planetary, and the sun gear (same sun shell). Since I bought the version with the Torrington thrust bearing, I also installed a new front planetary with the Torrington bearings. I picked the 5 pinion steel body front. The 2.10 setups I saw were way more expensive, but I like that ratio.

This did calm down the launch somewhat, along with the 4.10 rear gear and 31.8" tall slicks I run. At the end of 2014 (Oct) I put the new 540 CID engine in to replace the 511 CID. With the added torque of the 540 and the reduced nose weight of the aluminum block, the wheel stand came back. So I am adjusting for that some more. That day was 1000 ft DA, so it wasn't killer air and it wasn't bad air either. It went 9.02 at 147 mph and the sixty foots were 1.27x (3205 race weight).

I could have done without the 2.28 with the 511 and 4.10 gears, but with the new setup I am very happy I put the 2.28 1st gear set in the trans.

Jim

I would pay the money for the 2.10 if thats the way to go. I would rather pay that now then pay $800 for something that I may not be happy with.

On the flip side I dont want to kill it to much, but I would think it would be better than a 1.80 glide?

Some will say go with a Glide but I have all the good 727 parts (Duplicates of some) and (3) 8" 727 converters to play with and extra cases etc.....

If I was starting from scratch I would probably go Glide but I am not starting from scratch.

What rear gear? I run a 4.10. My car seems to work well at Milan on 10.5 tires with the standard gear set. 54% on the nose, 3340lbs. 60ft low 1.3x high 1.2x

No, on the foot brake. Wheel base is shortened to 113". The car does have 36" ladder bars along with being nose heavy may be the calming factor. I also run the Front shocks stiff in extension. converter flashes 5600-5700. Been 1.32 w/ 10.5Wx31, 1.29 w/10.5x29.5 at Milan on regular bracket days.
