I have seen in fiber and pot metal... diference is year related ( 70 or 71 ) or Car model related ? ( regular vs performance 340s )

fiber are earlier PN 29xxxxx , while pot metal are later PN 35xxxxx

All engines Dart/Demon 70-71 = Pot metal, with deep chromed pot metal inserts (approx. 4 inches deep front to back)

All engines Dart/Demon 72 = Fiber, with shallow pot metal chromed inserts
(approx. 2 inches deep front to back)

*The above applies to USA Built/Sold, stuff you might find on an export car, I have no idea

Are you sure they are original?

Note they are the deep disposition for the trim kind... 70/71 not 72

they seem to be studs with metal nuts ( similar to the selftapping ones ). Auction shows the bell kind nuts, but some others shows regulars

I have had a mix of both the fiber and potmetal extensions fo rthe 70 - 71 cars. I have had two LA built Demons, one had the fiber, my current one is potmetal. I have also had Michigan built Demons, and two Swingers IIRC they were all potmetal.

My 1972 Dart had metal ones and it was original. I can check which chrome piece applies.
My 1970 Dart has metal ones and is original. I will check chrome depth.

All part #'s taken from master parts catalogs...I have 3 different 70/71 print editions...the uncommon ,70 only(nearly always tossed) ,and two different 70-71's including the final print April 72.
Scott your car could have been built way after the SPD and who knows when they actually rolled in the potmetal extensions.
And a 72 with glass extensions....highly doubtful but never say never.I can imagine the line guys would be scratching their heads though trying to put the shallow dress up bezels on the deep extensions.

Furyman,

Yes I am quite aware with the variables on SPD's, but the door sticker doesn't lie (October 1970), and neither do date codes on original parts. It was 100% definitely built in October 1970. At any rate, I am on board with "you never know" variables, especially when it came to transition parts across consecutive model years.

Concerning the reliance on parts books, BE CAREFUL! While certainly a valuable reference tool, I've seen A LOT of details vary from parts books as compared to what was actually done in production.

That's why until this post I thought 70-1 were metal and 72 were fiber.

The 72 was a 4-dr and seemed to be all original but who knows.
