Hello everyone! I have a stock 440 with 213 heads with the exhaust rotators. The heads off for some porting and want to put new springs on. What springs/ retainers can I use on it to: 1# get rid of the rotators 2# use for now with the stock cam then upgrade to little larger cam(HP model) in the future. I want to do the spring/ retainer job now when its all apart rather then do springs on the car.
Thanks!

Hello Ori. iirc comp cams 901 or 911 (one of the two) is a good choice for a stock or near stock BB app but just consider this a BTT for ya

you can find 8 more stock intake valve springs & retainers to replace the shorter uspring/rotators.

you can use a set of the comp 911 springs with 8 stock intake retainers

or buy 16 comp springs with 16 comp retainers for those springs.

In using stock retainers as mentioned in quote make sure not to use the rotator type.

Clean it, if it's Dirty. Oil it, if it Squeaks. But: Don't fix it, if it Works!

It's easy, just make the exhaust stuff look like the intake stuff. I mean retainers, springs, etc. Comp 911s are pretty much standard for bigblocks, same as 901s for smallblocks. But it really depends on the camshaft.

If you're having work done on the heads, have the valve guides cut down to allow you more latitude on lift. It shouldn't cost very much.

Be sure you aren't going to have as much in those heads as a pair of new Stealths. I usually say don't spend a nickel on the old heads until you get a written quote. Costs add up quickly when redoing old heads, and I say that with 2 or 3 pairs of OE heads on the shelf back home that are becoming less and less valuable as time goes by.

Labor costs are high and specialized work takes $$$. Then when you are done, you have a set of 42-year-old heads with a lousy combustion chamber.
