Does anyone make an in-line adaptor that I can bolt into my existing 2-1/4" exhaust system that has a bung welded to it (non header type)?
I would like to just cut out a section of my 2-1/4" exhaust and add a bung without having to go to a muffler shop in the middle of Winter.

Thanks

what needs a bung? you can buy one and weld it in. It doesn't really require any welding skills. I added one to my old 67 coronet when I boosted it. Summit might even have a kit that is drill only and the uses a tap and a c-clamp to hold the sensor in place.

I am looking into "possibly" getting an LM1 kit this Winter. If I do, than I will need to add the bung and I am not running headers.
I can weld but I do not have a welder at home and I do not want to drive the car in the Winter to the exhaust shop. So I was hoping to just find an in-line adaptor to mount so that I could do it this Winter in my garage. I would assume that the standard exhaust pipe wall thickness is too thin to tap thru for a bung, but that is just a guess.

Thanks

Why do you need a LM1 kit? I think the bung is threaded into a piece of metal that is clamped to the exhaust. That's alot of trouble for very little gain...You could spend that cash on something nice for yourself...or car.

Thats not true. There could be lots to gain esp if he finds that extra mile or two per gallon. Depending on how much he drives the car he could pay for the LM1 and then put free extra cash in his pocket every time he fuels up. Then he can buy what ever he wants for free.

mpg on a muscle car?? kinda like lipstick on a pig. You can tune a carb just fine w/ a vacuum guage.

I'll take the LM-1 any day for doing my WOT testing.
As for the poster, just get the bung and wait till
you get the car out to have it welded in(takes a
couple of minutes). Its better if its welded in due
to a possible air leak giving a false reading with
a clamp on type

""Why do you need a LM1 kit? You could spend that cash on something nice for yourself...or car.""

Thanks for the opinion, but I am doing some investigation to determine if I think it would be good tool for my garage.

I might just call my local exhaust shop to see if they will make exactly what I would need.

Thanks

didn't mean to offend anybody here...just at $350+ plus what ever the exhaust shop is going to charge, for an mild muscle car I don't see the value. As for a racer, or a boosted car it is a good thing to have. I used a similar product on a boosted 440 I ran. You kinda need it so you don't start burning up things. I just don't know how much of a gain you are going to see using that set-up on an older, mild big block. You'd probably be able to come almost as close tuning the "old fashion" way.

A lot depends on what carb you are running. With power valves and removeable jets and air bleeds the LM1 will allow you to see and tune through the complete driving range. You will be able to tune your AF for optimum efficiency at cruise speed. Thats not so easily done with a vacuum guage. Plus the LM1 is not married to one car so it can be used for multiple applications. I know when my 528 hemi charger hits the street it will have a bung in both collectors and a LM1 for the tuning chores.

You didnt offend me. But with the LM-1 you can dial
in the total range of the fuel curve. I'm a old
hard core vac kinda guy also but the LM-1 will record
the idle cruise and wot so you can go back and adjust
what needs to be corrected

LM1 would be cool. I have the LC1 as I already have a laptop pc. For 200 bucks, you can see exactly whats going on to the A/F ratio. Then you can use the tool on your next car.

Zippy, does that unit have the ability to record
and keep data during a run, I didnt see any where
that it did(but I didnt read it all). That one would
work well for my drag stuff

It say it can store up to 2 hours worth of data. not just Fuel-air ration but rpms and etc.

"etc.= i forgot what else and didn't want to reread."

Thanks, that looks like a nice unit, right now I have
the LM-1 but that may be better in some ways.

if you want bungs on the cheap, pick up a set of spark plug anti-foulers and cut the ends off. it's the same thread as an O2 sensor

i have a friend that works at a muffler shop and he gave me a section of exhaust pipe with the bung in it. he had removed it from a car he was putting an exhaust on. even flaired it for me.

I just got my LM-1 hooked up and working when the weather got COLD. But i cant wait to run this car down the track and see what my mixture at WOT looks like.

BTW, i had initially set my idle mixture with a vacuum gauge and it turns out, I was pretty much dead nuts on. but WOT still needs looking at!

Yep it can datalog.

The Daytona Sensor one is the choice of MP's calibration engineer...I never heard of it until I saw it in one of the 5.7 test cars. He also uses an LM1 but he likes the Daytona unit better, says both give good data but the Daytona is alot less flakey. His opinion there, not mine.....

Personally I haven't had the chance to work with one beyond chassis dyno stuff, the 3 dynos I've been to all had LM1 but I never did anything beyond checking WOT. I can usually dial in idle, squirter and WOT close enough the old fashioned way but for part throttle I could use some help from a unit like that.
