I'm having to get rid of 40+ years of Challenger parts. I've simply ran out of room. I've got a pair of 72-74 fenders and 2 pairs of 70-71 fenders. I've stripped the drivers 72 fender that had surface rust and found no rust through or filler. I've yet to strip the passenger side fender but will use rust converter on the surface rust and then primer both before selling. I have two 71 Challengers and am trying to decide whether to sell the 2 pairs of 70-71 fenders since there's AMD and Goodmark fenders available. They just take up too much room in my shop but are in great shape and are my spares. I've got flat hoods (1970 and 72-74) and would like to get rid of them also. Should I strip them and primer? The question is should I sell most of my Challenger parts and by the repros when I need a part? Thanks.
Terry

I would prefer to buy parts in their original condition opposed to primed . If you feel like you have too much time on your hands, you could strip them and just get some ospho , Gibbs,WD40 or something to slow the surface rust down.

The parts are stored under cover now but my shop needs some room freed up. It just seems like the repro parts are getting to be high quality with part numbers and all that it seems a hassle to store so many parts. The odds of me using 4 fenders seems remote. Repro fenders go for over $500 each. I guess what started me on this line of thinking was tripping over the 72 fender in the shop today. Thanks.

Original will always fit better than repop. If the OE are good keep them. Even if they need work they will be better than repop.

you could prime the parts with PPG DX1791/1792 acid etch primer.
this primer is translucent so you can see thru it. this way the buyer will know what they are buying.

this primer only protects against flash rust. it won't protect against the elements.

There's nothing like original parts. I would keep one of everything. I've been purging as well but I am keeping more than I would like too. Everytime I buy another repro part I kick my butt. Here's a $150 air filter, minor defect but you't think they could make it right.

I hope it will come into shape in the 100 degree weather this summer.
No way would I get rid of nice, original 70 Challenger fenders.

Thanks for the response. I have no experience with repro body parts other than carpet, headliners, and other soft goods such as door seals. I've seen where others have said they need to massage the repro steel body parts, but I've had to do that with 40+ year old parts also. Living on the dry side of the mountains, we only get surface rust from thin worn paint. I'll keep the parts but need to find a way to store them. I'll get rid of all the 72-74 body sheet metal, grilles, etc. in the near future. Again thanks. It gets frustrating not to have the room to work on the Challengers and Chargers like I really want. I'm always moving stuff. Fenders, hoods, trunk lids, doors, bumpers, engines- I'm just getting too old to move them all the time. Thanks.
