i bought the stock hemi mopar (made in mexico) springs, and they have held up for a bout 5 years or so. not a good track record. was considering having them re-arced, but that doesn't seem like a good idea, as i assume it's the composition of the metal itself that has them sagging after such a short period of time. so re-arced, they'll just sag again.

i loved the stance the stock springs gave it, not sure i want 1" more than that. i'll talk to them as ESPO and see what they say.

Stanley is another good spring manufacturer, but unlike Eaton you can't buy direct.

Here's a listing from a Spring shop in Pennsylvania (who will ship if you can't find a local retailer).
http://www.stengelbros.net/Passenger-Car-Leaf-Springs_c_181.html

Reasons for wearing out are lots of cycles and overloading. Differences in leaf thickness (especially the first two), number of leaves, positions and end shape, are all factors. Bushings and interleaves can wear out too. If that's all thats worn, they are candidates for rebuilding.

I bought mine through PST and they told me they would be drop shipped from the manufacture which turned out to be Eaton. Been in the car 4 years and have not settled a bit. I'm happy. Yes they are expensive but I feel they were worth it.

Try calling a HD truck parts supplier in your area & ask them of a good spring supplier. The truck & trailer parts suppliers deal with stuff like this all the time & many times a spring shop will deal with automotive as well as HD applications. The truck parts suppliers are generally more expert in all the parts components than automotive suppliers.

ok, so here's another angle. herb just had his springs re-arched. i was thinking of doing mine as well, but my thought is that the composition of the metal of these springs is inferior, and that is why they sagged in a relatively short period of time.

so if i have them re-arched, won't they just sag again in a number of years?

or maybe the matrix structure of the molecules has settled to what it is going to be, and they will keep the new re-arcing ok?

hmmm....

mickm, I've not ever seen re-arched springs hold the re-arch more then a few years, my shop used to be next to a spring shop. His advice was to replace the springs, or at least every other leaf in a pack or they would flatten out in a few years. I think it has something to do with the number of duty cycles the springs go through, because all forms of springs tend to weaken over time. Gene

gene, thanks, i was kind of thinking that is what it would be. i was assuming i'd get new ones, just have to decide if i want to go with the ESPO springs, or twice as much for eaton.

Before you pull the trigger, might want to see if the leaves are made of 'imported' steel...

Got 20+ years going on a set that was OEM to the car, re-worked(with an extra leaf added)by a shop here, locally...

They're doing fine...

Mick, remember i did rearch my factory springs this year, but i had them done once before over 20 years ago. As said i also had a couple of leafs added and with all of the action my car has seen i would 20+ years on my original rearch was money well spent. Did you talk to Mike about getting the number to the truck spring shop in the east bay and discuss with them? I would explain what your after and see what they say. As said the truck guys know all about what works and what does not. If you go new go with Eaton as you drive and haul people around with your car and not use it as a stage prop at the local car shows.

herb, but yours are factory springs, mine are mopar springs made in mexico. people have said for a while these springs aren't the best. so we are talking two different qualities of metal here, i'm sure.

i did call them, but only got a woman on the phone who had no clue as to what i was talking about. i said i had a question about springs, guess i should call back and politely ask to speak with someone more knowledgeable.

i'm pretty sure i'm just going to bite the bullet and get the eaton springs. rearching is $225 or so, iirc, so it's double that to get the eaton springs and be done with it.

Mick, sounds like you got the wrong person on the phone over there. But if you do go new sounds like the eatons are the way go. I would ask about the metal used in their springs and ask how long you should expect them to hold things up before sagging. Sucks that the springs you have had only been in use for 5 years or so. Let me know if you need a hand or want to use the rack at the warehouse.

I used the Eaton +1 springs on my 68 Charger about 3 years ago and havn't noticed any sagging so I'd recommend them too. I don't know about the other brands.
