A few weeks ago this topic came up but a search has yeilded nothing so ...

9-1/4 rears came with two style castings and covers. One is the common octagon and the other is round.

What models and years did the round ones come on ?

I believe that was my topic. I do not know the answer to your question. But at least up to a 1978 New Yorker it was round.

All the ones I've seen or had were rounded tops, with the bottom half having stop sign shape sort of. (late 79 to 90 model trucks) I now have one in my 03 durango, and haven't peeked at it yet, the top half of it.

Yes, that's the thread I was looking for.

So this still has me baffled. It doesn't appear to be a 9-1/4 as it only has 10 bolts. But it doesn't look like an 8-1/4 either - no plug and the cover is round, not oval. Its definitely a Mopar piece as it has the pentastar cast into it. What is it?

Is the plug on the passenger side, a 1/2" square drive pipe plug into the housing?
Looks like a 76 F wagon/HD 8-1/4 to me. Finned brake drum and larger locating hole in the perch for the iso clamp set-up.

Yup.

1976 or earlier due to the fill/level check plug being on the side of the housing. 77 moved the plug to the cover.
Looking at the larger locating hole in the spring perches tells me iso-clamp mounting so its 73 or newer.
73-76 F, M, J, or B. Drum and perch widths will tell which.
Looks identical to the one in my 76 Aspen wagon. The wagons all got an 8.25 with the HD brake drums.
