We have a 72 demon that's backhalfed and now installing a strut front. Going to be a tube car. Wondered if there's an ideal number to move motor back to obtain ideal chassis setup. Using R3 block with 727 trans. Car weighs 3135 w/driver. 57% front and 43% rear. Had it scaled. Considering moving 6" rearward. Was told 2-3" would not make diff. Still stock wheelbase. Dropped car to about 5" ground clearence. A full drag car now. Any input would be appreciated!

When we did my car we moved the engine back far enough for clearance to the steering rack. Things you'll need to consider are the master cylinder and firewall. If you move the master to the floor and scrap the stock firewall you can set it back further but then the cowl can interfere with the induction system. You'll also need to move the seat back from a stock location for leg room.

As far as my experience tells me moving the engine back 1" moves approx. 100 pounds to the rear axle. Does it make a difference in how the car works? Not really if the suspension system is working.

Also the height of the engine makes a difference..
if you raise it up its easier to transfer the weight..
the amount of torque you plan on will also make a
difference where you want it.. big torque keep it low..
I like to put the back of the engine at the new knee
loop.. that usually makes it 50/50 on a moly chassis
(static weight with the driver)

The #1 spark plug is right at the strut. The struts are mounted with 8* positive caster.

Yeah, I bought I think 18 J bends and the collectors from Schoenfeld Headers. The flanges came from Heddman as did the port adapter plates.

Oh and the engine and drive line are offset 1/2" to the right for starter clearance. That probably wouldn't be an issue with a round tube frame though.
