Trying to get info on where you are seeing peak power with a std. port head on a 540 ci stroker ?

Thanks

Torque peak would be around 3800 rpm, HP peak might be 1000 rpm higher with 540 inches and standard ports.

Thanks AndyF.

I have been reading your book daily!
Awesome reading.

I am trying to do this with a stock sixpack intake manifold.

Not enough meat around intake manifolds ports so that I can open my Bulldog heads to MW ports.
Any ideas from you are Great!!

540 inches with a stock six pack intake will be fairly low-rpm engine. It will work fine with a stock torque convertor and highway gears but it won't be a racing engine. Should be a nice street engine.

My 518 C.I. pump gas low deck stroker motor in my 3450 lb Duster ran low tens with the low deck sixpak intake and semi stock (Jetted and tuned) 440 six pak carbs. It had a set of Eddy RPM heads on it that where CNC ported with 440 port sizes, not M.W. port sizes. It did that through the full 3 inch exhaust to the rear bumpers and three inch tall K&N sixpak air cleaner on it, all on Oregon 91 octane pump swill Your deal will be traction limited just like mine was Good luck, have fun and let us know your results with the sixpak on it

I built one a couple of years ago with RPM heads. It wasn't really sensitive to the rpm, have no idea of where it made its power, but we pulled it to over 6000. The heads were homeported, the intake was a Team G with a dominator and run with pump gas. It was in a 3600 lbs car with a powerglide(?, wasn't my idea) and 3.23 gears with 275/60/5 ET Street radials. It run 10.4 in the 1/4 mile.

Eddy Performer heads with a MP M-1 intake and 1050 Dominator. .632 lift 230@ .050 duration solid roller
4.10 gear with a 9.5 Lupo Dynamic converter.
Ran a best of 10.67 @ 128
And had nice street manners drove it everywhere

I do however like the idea of the Indy intake mentioned earlier.
Then you can port those heads and really attain your goal...

Great info from all

modman intake looks like a good option for the 540 and mw ports.
will finish tweaking stock intake runners this week and see what that does.

This combo will eat cam duration for lunch. The rpm for torque and hp will be very low even with a tunnelram using standard port heads. I would be concerned about that Modman intake, and research it some before committing to it. VERY big plenum.

The few times I put six pack on big inch std port heads I never liked the results--It never seems like enough and that driving a big inch on that small center two barrel just seems like asking for trouble
I know the NHRA stock guys make six packs look good but ......

Thanks,

Cam now is 260/266 @ .050
looking for more bottom to get it moving with the 2.66 first gear so was thinking 540 should do it.
Sounds like I may shoot myself in the foot with small ports though.

My brother runs the Mod Man intake with two 750 Eddy carbs on his 511 with the big EZ heads. It weighs about 3575 with him in it and has run a best of 9.96. Ron

Ron, That is very impressive. Takes over 700 hp to do that. I guess the question would be how much launch rpm it would take to make it work with the stick?

And that is my problem now.

dumping the clutch at 5K and too much weight.

4.10's and 2.66 first gear and only 545 ft. tq. at 4300.

I can understand that as I am glad my 63 is an auto as I could not afford to run a stick car the way I launch stick cars. Back in the late 70's early 80's I bracket raced a 340 Dart that ran a best of 11.90's @ 113 and it was a stock 833 four speed. Well I would bring the rpm up as the tree came down and I would bring it up to about 6000 and then dump the clutch and slam the gas to the floor on launch. And I would power shift it also but it broke a good share of parts racing it for 4 seasons. It was an 8-3/4 and I broke a few driveshafts and ring gear teeth along with twisting the axle shaft splines and all. But hey if your gonna race run it hard and I did . Now my 63 is over a second and 10 mph faster and I still have a stock 8-3/4 in it with a Detroit locker but it has not broke anything major yet to this date as I have raced it a few times a season since 2007. Just shows how the auto is much easier on the drivetrain parts. Ron
