Well I am trying to get the gas tank into my Charger so I have been acquiring the parts to complete that install. I went and ordered a replacement filler neck, new tank, etc. Well I went to get a replacement pad for the tank to trunk floor, what a headache. There are 3 major types of pads, foam rubber, 30lb roofing felt and one supplier of originals. So from what I can tell, the foam ones retain water. The 30lb roofing felt has changed since the 80's, I measure some today and it was only .017" thick where the orignal pad on my car measured .063. The original replacement pad was $159.99 from Jim's Auto Part. Well after further searching, I found that DMT carries one that is almost the same thickness as the original from their ad. So I ordered one from them on the bay, hopefully everything is not like this when ordering parts...I will post on the quality when I get it. Tim

Ok, I never thought to look them up to see if they were reputable sellers or not. Seem that most on here are. Tim

DMT is AOK

I just use a couple layers of the 30#. There's always a partial roll of it around my house.

Hello.

So heres the deal. The original pads were made from brown asbestos felt. Armstrong Industrial Insulations made them. You'll see their logo, capitol A in a circle. They went bankrupt and became Armstrong Flooring. That material is no longer available. Well actually it is. But not in this country. So no one is selling an original version.

I make the next best thing. I have a roofing felt company make me the thickest material they can. It's about .060-.070". That original asbestos product is about .080" so its darn close. It doesn't have the waffling and the asphalt is heavier than the original but again its the closest on the market. I'm working with another manufacturer to make my own paper to more closely mimic the original material. A heavily waffled version (called "indented") was used on the firewall insulation too. Thats why I'm investigating a more accurate material. Because we make our own firewall insulation line.

We also sell a nice .093" thick masticated rubber version. It's heavy for better sound deadening and won't absorb water.

I don't make the cheap foam ones. Personally I wouldn't use them but the other vendors sell them like hotcakes.

Hope that info helps.

I reread your post. ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY NINE DOLLARS for one from Jims? What the heck is it made of? Have link to that?

No matter what it's made of a tank pad should never cost $159 except maybe an NOS one.

https://www.jimsautoparts.com/fuelpart.htm Look about 1/2 way down.
It looks just like the one I took from my 18K mile charger, but its too rich for my blood. That is why I ordered one of yours. Tim

Thanks for the purchase!

They just show a close up. Hard to really tell. I'd buy one to see what its made of I but like I said unless it's NOS $159 is wacko.

I have at least two of every tank pad and an NOS B body one that I used for reference.

I installed one of your masticated rubber pads and am very happy with it.
