Was wondering why did they make an 8 3/4 with the big and Small yoke? what are the pros and cons.

i think the larger yokes were used in big block and large body cars.

correct.

my 67 8 3/4 polara has the large 1330 yoke and was only on 426/440HP cars.

I have stomped on many small 7260 yokes/joints from cars to 4x4 and never had any break..u-joints wear out and fail but never broke a yoke.

unless you are high HP with sticky tires your good to go.IMHO.

My 65 B body factory 361 with 4 speed had the small joint.I popped a few till I found the yoke was bad.Replaced it about 30 years ago with a good small yoke and its still alive with the built 440.My Imps did have the big joints. When I go Dana Ill go large joint only because I have to change the drive shaft.Rocky

You'll be fine. Just get a good made in USA brand & after installation make SURE it moves free back & forth by hand (rear ujoint) and front ujoint/trans yoke moves free back & forth in both planes. If it dont, whack the ears till it does

Max Wedge and '64-'65 Hemi cars had the small yoke.

Disagree, The 340 small block 68-9 darts had the bigger joints as did many other applications.

Why?? because they were stronger. But I will agree the small joints will take a lot of abuse

The only true answer is probally in Mopar decision makers corrosponces All the early cars, 1963 and earlier had the 7260 rear joints, ball and trunion front joints of severl difference sizes Once the 5 year 50,000 mile warrenty was started in 1962 or 1963 it probally made since to make parts stronger, especially with the HP wars, race on Sunday, sell on Monday and pony car wars started. The beefeir parts where probally put on the cars so they wouldn't have to replace them under warrenty and pay the dealers shop mechanics to fix them, as well as seeing cars break parts at the track wasn't good advertising either

likely 7260 on the 7&1/4. You may not even need a ujoint change. You'll know tomorrow
