What is the correct color orange paint that I should be using on a 440 HP engine for my 1970 Dodge Coronet R/T? Is it street Hemi orange?

Thank you in advance!

Vinny

I'm getting good life out of Mopar 'Street Hemi' rattle-can orange over a primed block...

If you want to go beyond that, Badalson addressed 'orange' engine color in the past...

I believe in MCG...

I use Dupli-color De1652 Chrysler Hemi Orange. Autozone or O'Reilly's carries it.

Plastikote if you are using spray bomb, Badalson's if you are shooting from a gun and are wanting factory correct.
Plastikote has more shine than original but it looks great and holds up good.
Here is an engine with Badalson's paint

Another vote for Plastikote 226. Looks very good and is oh so easy to touch up.

I find sheen is dependant a bit on how you apply it and I've certainly seen many spray guy jobs that were far too shiny.

Anyone use Plasti-Kote or Dupli-Color Primer?

I like the Plasti-Kote...primer and orange paint. It holds up MUCH better than Dupli Color and wont fade over time.

I believe the "correct" color is street hemi orange. I used the MP stuff over a primed block ~10 years ago and it has held up pretty well. By some miracle the old spray cans still work for touch up too. That paint gets bashed a lot but did OK for me.

I used this on the last eng I built here in my 63 and really liked it at first. But it seems to be peeling in small spots sometimes and the paint on the oil pan peels some. I found that if I spray it back on even when its very clean it just dont lay right and seems tp peel and even get small bubbles in it. But if I spray the paint in a lid and use a small brush it goes on much better and stays on better. I never had this problem with any other engines and the orange paint and this is the first time I used the Dupli-Color paint. I really like how it looks and went on but I am not real pleased with how its holding up on my eng. Ron

I located Plasti-Kote products on Amazon, it appears all the retailers/distributors in MI have pulled the products and replaced with Dupli-Color products.

Why is Plasti-Kote being pulled from stores???

All 3 stores in the Knoxville, TN area had their Plasti-Kote line pulled out a month ago?

Ron, I had the same problem with Duplicolor not holding up on my orig valve covers after about a year so made sure I put a couple of primer coats on my new covers before spraying them. Paint seems to be holding up well on them
after a year's time, except for a couple of spots where I tried to clean up
some spilled oil with rubbing alcohol & that really dulled a small area.
Haven't been able to find Plastikote locally, so went with the Duplicolor.

I swore by PlastiKote for years until I got a bad can or two. The exterior label on the can changed as well from their original silver and white to blue. Don't know what happened there... BTW I believe Plastikote is really Valspar...also noticed Plastikote disappearing from the shelves in parts stores, being replaced by DupliColor.
