68 b-body 383 727torqueflite 28 inch tires currently running 3.55s. what kind of difference will i see going to 3.91? should i just go straight for 4.10s? planning on staying with the 28 inch rear tire. looking for better 1/4 mile time not a real highway kinda car just buzzing around town on weekends. what do you guys think?

I have always liked 3.91's in a street car.Knowing what heads, intake, cam, carb, and stall would help.

Wow. What a cool site. Thank you.

I have thought long and hard about whether or not to go with a Passon OD unit in my Cuda, as well as the Bee, but that site helped me decide that since the Cuda has a 3.91 and all I really save is about 700 RPM at 80 mph (significant, yes, but worth it?), I think I'll just leave it as is. With the Bee, I have to buy new gears anyway, so I'll still go with the OD unit for that one since it'll be nice to have a taller gear in it. If I run a 4.56 in the Bee with the Passon gear set, I'll have a final drive at 80 mph at just about where the Cuda is now - 3,700 RPMs.

VERY helpful and cool site!

With 28in tires 4.10. If 2 much rpm you can always put a 29 tire. 355 to 391 is not much of a jump.

The limiting factor is gonna be traction...4.10 is a fun gear but you'll need to feather it out of the hole or you'll just blow the tires off...

4.10's for 1/4 mile times, for sure. I just went from 3.91 to 4.30's and I saw good improvement, FWIW.

It depends on your shift rpm.I think 3.91's are fine for mostly street.4.10's will e.t. better if you can hook but are no fun on the street.

Not much RPM difference between 3.91s and 4.10s.
If 4.10s are no fun, then 3.91s shouldnt be either.

I run 4.30s with a 28 inch tall tire and it doesnt bother me at all.

I've got 3.91's in the challenger with a 28" tall tire. I put a gearvendors unit on it and it is night and day difference running down the freeway. Well worth it for me.

If you are traction limited on the launch now, you will not see much difference. What is your 60', et and mph?

Put 4:30's in it. You won't be disappointed

How about a high stall converter instead. If you're running a stock one now, you'll see a better E.T.

3.91's are a good all around gear. I have jumped from 3.55's to .91's and you can realy tell the difference, especially in a big car. I have also gone form 3.91's to 4.10's but I didn't notice much of a change and didn't see much in the way of a et gain either.

3.91's are ok but if you want a stop light burner, go lower!! i have 4.30's and love them!! i'll drive on freeways but limit my speed to 65 mph. that puts me at 3500 or so

3.91's with 28" tall tires are my limit on the street. Though I would go with a quality converter before a gear change.
