What was the correct / OE color or paint code for the air inlet screen for the 69 road runner / GTX air grabber? I'm in the process of restoring the car and want to get the correct color back on this.

Brian, you had an unmolested original car. What color were they to start with? I have seen many original cars with the blackout hood treatment and black screens. The accepted standard is generally red screens on blackout hoods and black screens on body colored hoods. I bought AG screens for my non-AG hood back in 1970 and they were red. I don't remember if I had an option to get black ones but I wanted the red ones in any case. The factory promotional Plymouth literature shows red on blackout hood treatment with the air grabber. Whatever your color, I wouldn't remove the airgrabber to change the color of the screens because I don't believe there is a definitive answer to the question. You shouldn't get docked any points at judging either way (I didn't). Otherwise, your originals should have signs of the original color?

RoadrunnerJD,

Dad's car did not have the air grabber system and the block off plates someone had painted red I assume when they added the V21 hood black out. Dad wanted to add the functional air grabber set up to the car and we found an original restored Chrysler set up which we are putting on as soon as it arrives.

Go with red screens. Try a can of Weber red grill spray paint and see how you like the color? There are a lot of variations of red. I used it on my RM27J9 and it looked very good. It is also very durable.

John,

I did. They were painted today and as my luck would have it today, I forgot my camera home along with some other stuff. Pics will be posted tomorrow when I get back to Dad's house.

So what color did you end up using? By the way, I think it would be the same color for the red stripe in the grill...

funny that you should mention that! After looking for Rallye Red, I found out that it was pretty muc the same color as the R4 red that my 69 Charger is which I had some touch up paint in Dupont Lucite (no longer made). Coincidentally, I had used the same color for air brushing the stripe onto the grille when I restored that on Dad's car. I guess GM used the same color paint as the label on the Dupont Lucite showed it as a GM color as which I can not remember the paint code now as the can is at my fathers house. I will say though, the paint is a dead match for my R4 on my charger.
