I have been considering changing to a powerglide from a 3 speed. My car is 3700lbs and make a little over 900HP. Have any of you guys made this switch?
How much does it affect the 60ft? Will the car improve or lose ET and MPH ? My best is 9.08 @ 148. The 60ft is 1.25. Comments or experiences please?

Will my car used to run 8.70's with 727. Now I only get 8.90's with powerglide 2,880 lbs 60' 1.199 to 2.0 now 1.28-1.3
Missing 2nd gear hurts ET 1-2 shift with PG takes a while to recover.
If I wasn't running super street class I'd never switch.

JD you probably need a gear/converter change to get back where you were. I personally love the glide. some will tell you after a certain weight you shouldn't use a glide. if I had the extra bucks I would have a glide in my arrow. I say do it, just be prepared to run a lot of gear and get the correct converter.

search this topic on the yellow bullet for more responces.
for me it was an easy choice, to many guys running as good or better with a glide. even in heavier cars. you need to get the converter rite, but same can be said for 3 speeds as well. if you have a 4.10, you may need a 4.30, but not a lot more gear.

I say no. Not enough starting line ratio. Talk to someone who's one it at your weight. I talked to a friend who runs a N/SS Chevelle. Its normally in the 8.70 range. The car weighs 3000 w/driver. It picked up aprox .05 with a glide. That's 700 lbs less than you. Everyone I've talked others with 3300+ cars have slowed down. Strip some weight out to meet your goal. Easier on parts, guaranteed results.

I've tried 3 different convertors and changed the rear gears from 4.30 to 4.56 pick up the 60' but no ET change. Heads are very tired maybe it would be faster.
I'm not saying I don't like it but if you want faster it will not get you there. If you want consistent then it's the number 1 choice.
