i'm confused again... didn't you say in your other post that you are using a Firecore distributor? I think all you need is this - http://chucker54.stores.yahoo.net/disadweigspr.html
Yeah but those are only the springs. For limiting mechanical advance you also need the keys.

7. The amount of mechanical advance is controlled by the two lower adjustment screws, one on either side of the advance plates. To adjust the total amount of mechanical advance, loosen the screws and rotate the two advance plates. Do not bend the advance tabs. Using the optional MP part number 312-P5153446 advance curve key kit, choose the total amount of mechanical advance that is needed. The amount of crank shaft degrees is marked on each key. Insert the flat side of the key toward the advance tab and rotate the adjustment plate tightly against the key. Tighten the adjustment screws to 30 in-lb.
Without the keys you'll have to guess the amount.

The keys aren't accurate. Many have used a 14* and the distributor had 12 or 16...
The basic width of the keys are on the net. I use proper diameter drill bit shanks to set advance windows.
hmm, drill bits. Hadn't thought of that! I did find this thread when doing some research: link but without accurately sized replacements the information sounded a bit useless. Well, haven't got that kind of precision tooling. I really like your idea though! Think you've probably just saved me 30 bucks!

The FireCore distributor does come with a spring kit. From the factory it has 2 medium weight springs installed and approx. 20-22 of mechanical advance dialed in. Run it as-is and set the base timing at 15-16 @ idle and check the total timing. It will be all in by 3000 rpm and you should have ~36-37* total. This works great with the majority of mild pump gas street builds Ron

Hi Ron
AFAIK the stock distributor on my low compression '73 engine gives maximum advance @ 2600 RPM. The distributor fitted to the Six Pack or Magnum engines of this period gives maximum advance at 1700. Which is why people swapped in a late SP distributor. Maximum advance @ 3000 plus like in the stock FireCore setup would seem like a step back!
you did say this was a street car right? what advance are you looking for?

I'm basically following these two articles (the second one desribes re-curving a MP adjustable distributor but the same principle applies). I'm not sure how much advance I'll end up with though.

Didn't like the Orange Box, FBO not an option anymore it seems, Chrome Box okay but quality problems not unheard of. I have no reason to question Rick Ehrenberg's expertise and far too tight to shell out for a MSD 6AL (this is a street car after all!).
i'm not questioning either and i know nothing about his box except it's plug and play. i also don't know what you are trying to do but that's water over the dam since you've bought all the stuff. tough to beat a performance ECU for $35 !

Alternative would've been the Standard Motor Products LX101 but since the "HiRev 7500" is even cheaper AND seems to work just fine I thought I'd give it a try I'm not going to rev the car anywhere near that but I do want my ignition components to work reliably up to 4500 RPM, maybe 5000. Also had a look at GM Hei ignition, well had one come free with my s/h EFI kit. Unfortunately I couldn't get it to work at all. After fitting fuel injection however the ignition remained the waek link in my car. Not surprising really, probably untouched in 30 yrs. The distributor most certainly wanted replacing and since Mopar stopped selling their adjustable range FireCore sounded like a good option. Price was right too! TBH a lot of what MSD et al sell seems to be designed for Chevy with Mopar as an afterthought. And you pay top dollar.
