Yes it was put together like this......not by me.....mind you...was touted at a race engine needing refreshing.....

Got this from a friend who eventually gave up on it - 383 - had a 509 cam in it, was a "race" piece.....well..sorta.

The dented rod was #7 - #7 and #8 had plenty of problems. Both bearings had alot of groves.

Look at the back side of the rod bearings. Ive never seen that cross pattern on the back side. Rods were resized as the crank was 10/10. That look normal? ( you can see 7/8 dont have it. )

It looks like someone drove that rod out of the block from the bottom with a socket extension, maybe a long 3/8 drive extension I've never done anything like that More than once Astute observation on the lack of heat transfer on those two bearings Time to resize or replace them two rascals

As long as they aren't high spots they'll hold oil ... wait , that's behind the bearing ...

The marks he sees are transferred from the rods surface, I would be suspect of the quality of that resize job , don't expect the rod lengths to be uniform either.
