i have a new battery about 6 months old and after it sits for about 2 weeks it goes dead. the master switch is turned off and the only thing hooked up is the volt gauge and alternator (single wire alternator). I recharged the battery and unhooked the alt.and it is still at full charge after 2 days. my question is could something have happened to alt. causing it to drain the battery. I have raced very little this year but when at track alt. is charging

Disconnect alternator for a few days & see if problem goes away, if it does, then check for leaky diodes in the alternator.

I agree. I had a Suzuki Samurai 1-wire conversion alternator wired straight to the battery. Had to disconnect when the racecar sat due to diode problems causing slow draw.

A full-time wired volt guage draws current..
Disconnect the guage and see if it makes a difference..

Just my $0.02..

I have my alt wired to the battery side of the master switch and my volt gauge wire to a 12 volt ignition source.
