i run Summit Racing 90/10's up front and Rancho adjustables out back. its a really inexpensive street/strip setup with great quality.

My cars work fine with over the counter Monroes or Gabrials and bought when on sale.

What kind of suspension do you have, or perhaps what do you WANT to have when you're done? Once yoy start looking, there are lots of good choices out there and cost is going to be a factor just like function will.

Wouldn't it be convenient if we could find great handling-related questions in one specific sub-forum?

I have Edelbrocks in the front and Rancho adjustables in the rear. It's a pretty good ride. A lot better than the parts store shocks I had.

Would depend on what you do or plan to do with the
car. If drag racing I would spend the buck for a better
quality adjustable shock both front and rear. The
more you have for adjustment the more you can tune
the chassis

For street applications we use KYB's almost exclusively

I have used them all, KYB, Mopar HD, Edlebrock, QA1 etc. Do not use the edelbrocks unless you are working on late 73 & up B body fronts. Here they work very well and do not raise the ride height. To make these shocks you use the chevy chevelle front shock and replace the t bar with a sleeve. The edelbrocks in other cases are way to stiff and do not allow the suspension to work properly. They actually change the ride height and work even worse when hot and you start to push them. I have taken then off the cars they were on and sold them. Waste of $$$$$ Bandaid solution.

KYB's used to be good. Still they "porpoise" when they get hot. OK for a driver.

Mopar HD or the HD monroe's actually work very well.

The best shock by far is the adjustabe QA1's and I can't say enough good things about them.

If you are drag racing there is no better 90/10 than the Calverts for the front. 100.00 for the pair.

As far as A bodies....here goes....

I, too have had all the shocks and have found my custom Bilsteins to be the best so far. The edelbrocks were weird to say the least and really far off in valving for the rear if memory serves me. Since they are a fit all piece they are too long for a lowered A body like mine. I also used Varishocks which are basically the same as QA1s, but with American internals. Either way, they are twin tube shocks with and oil restricter, not true adjustability like advertised. Definitely not a heavy duty piece in my opinion, and after 3 rebuilds, I was proved correct. The valving for the rear of an A body was poor at the lower settings (below 5 clicks) and I needed 10-11 clicks of 16 on the front to control the motion of my 1.04s, and the ride was harsh to say the least.

Just my .02.

Every time you drive your car, you get to enjoy money spent on quality shocks. It really makes a huge difference in your cars manners and operational safety.

For general ride quality, street hoolliganisim and stepping beyond into autocross etc they go from from cheapest to most expensive Bilstien's, Koni's then double adjustable QA1's with performance following the cost. It's hard to beat Bilstien's for general street romping.

For drag racing, there are other choices, but the QA1's have the adjustability to help set up the car to balance the weight transfer.

what eddelbrocks are you talking about ? IAS eddys doesn't fit in front. they are longer to get the inner fender location, what in 73 and later is a lower location.

I've got Konis on my '67 R/T and love them. I had KYBs on the car before that, and some parts store gas shocks before that (Gabriels?). The KYBs were better than the parts store shocks and I like the Konis better than the KYBs.

Just to add to the Qa1 i used them o anumber of car chevy ford etc. but when it came to the mopars i came across a problem.

THe front were fine.

THe rear however were off the bushing that fits in the shock crossmember was too small and mover back and forth on the bolt . i had to add alot of spacer to make it work and i didn't like it.

I called Qa1 and of course they were unaware of the problem this shock in question fit both a 73 cuda and a 69 road runner. I had 2 sets same problem on both. Hopefully they fixed this problem.

I have heard good things about the Edelbrock IAS shocks when used on B Bodies but it seems that they do not perform very well on the A bodies as many on this thread have reported.
