Note the metal base.

I see these on tuffwheelrestoration.com but they look diff. than the typical all black plastic ones. E.g.:

From 71 Abody or B body BUT the orig horn button had a plastic , Not metal base. The metal base is a nice reproduction of the plastic part. After 71 the button was a 1 piece plastic like the lower pic.

The metal base unit shown (the reproduction) would have been chrome plated plastic originally (with a similar looking dull refelctive finish) it's basically the same style plastic ring (less the fake allen screws) that the Rim Blow caps had that you'd find on Cuda's and Challengers.

'71 only? Wow, that sucker must be pretty rare.

Would be nice if they repro 'em (not just the new al. base).

Yea Pink, most 71 Plymouth caps lacked the fish, Dodge caps were either plain or had a Dodge ring insert in the cap rubber rather than the fish (Challengers).

Here is a shot of an original, I actually pulled this out of a 74 360 Dart Sport. Most likely replaced at some point.

There are actually 2 different styles of the padded caps available.

The correct early style padded cap is like the one shown in EV2's post. They only came in black, and the seam/piping where the vinyl top and sides are joined is much more pronounced. The lower plastic base is also slightly different.

The later style padded cap as shown at the start of this thread came on the coloured Tuff wheels available in the late '70s/early '80s models - most often seen in navy blue, tan, off-white and burgundy. The seam between the top and sides is much more streamlined and there is more of a 'baseball' stitch joining the two. They are often dyed black, but are not correct for early applications.

For Aspen R/Ts, Volares, trucks etc. that came with black Tuff wheels, the hard plastic horn cap was used on those (with the silver painted insert).

Technically, the ones with the Dodge ring did not come on Tuff wheels as e-body cars did not use them. It would have been on a rim-blow wheel.

Tru dat.

I wonder if anyone has adapted a rim blow cap on a tuff wheel?

I think that'd look pretty nice on one the new leather-wrapped tuff wheels.

I may try it if I can find a decent rim blow cap.

Take a tuff-wheel cap, cut out the center w/the prongs, and glue/epoxy it to the back of the rim-blow cap. May work.

Rim-blow looks nice, but too freakin' big and I'm not keen of hard plastic rims to hold onto.

Absalutely, I never intended to infer anythingthing else with my post, talking Rim Blows only.

Guess i am high jacking....
If a 70 challenger had a rim blow it would have a dodge cap? whats that look like? being reproduced?
I always wantde to get the wheel redone and get the right cap but I am just a poor E Body owner! Do they have poor ones
If it ends up being real costly I will just use the black wheel that came with the car

The rimblow center cap was designed for decoration only and not a horn button so it does not have a deep enough offset to accept a horn switch underneath. If you install a rimblow cap onto a tuff wheel, there will be a gap between the cap and spokes. I'm sure a rimblow cap could be modified to work, but it may be extensive. Here's a few pics of what one would look like.

Yes they are reproduced and are the correct center caps for all 70-71 Challengers and 70 Dodge B-bodies with rimblow wheels.

I've been using a "dodge" rim blow cap on my tuff wheel for 20 years.... Who knew I also have the hard plastic one, but always liked the padded one better. It fits fine, though there is more of a space as "plum" noted. the biggest problem with mine is that the car is a plymouth 'cuda and the dodge cap just doesn't belong. I guess it could be up for grabs.
