I have a 800 Thunder on my 70 383 RoadRunner and I think it is running really rich. I got a kit to change out the jets and was told to put 107's in the front and 104's in the back. I have never messed with a carb. this much before. How do I know which metering rods to use? The book doesn't really say, it shows 2 different ones. I'm getting my motor out of the machine shop this week so I need to get this ready. It is a 30 over 383 with a Lunati Voodoo cam, DP4B intake running approx. 9.5 comp. thru HP manifolds. The machinist told me it looked like it had been running rich. I want to get the motor running right this time. Thanks for any advice on this. Thanks Again Ronnie

How do you determine which spring to use? That is a different chart than in the book I have. Mine has 2 107 jets listed in it but different rods. I'm just trying to get it not to run so rich. I'm rebuilding my motor now so I need to try to get it close as I can. There isn't any place around me to put it on a dyno. Thanks Ronnie

do the 107's in the primarys and keep the 68x47 rods and orange springs that the carb came with. try 104 or 101's in the back. use a smaller squirter up front, nothing bigger than a .028. it's easy to do. test with a vacuum gauge to make sure you have over 5" of manifold vacuum at idle in gear.

I loosen up the doors on top of the metering rods and pistons and slide them over to the side and tighten up the holding screws, start the motor up and have someone sit in the car and put it in gear(after warming it up to operating temps), if the rods and pistons are dancing up and down or at the top of the travel you need a weaker spring I use to cut one coil at a time off of those springs until they stayed down all the time while idling in gear, that was a long time ago before you could buy the Carter or Eddy spring kits As far as the idling and part throttle jetting look at the numbers on your rods and see if you can find another rod that is .003 to .006 fatter on both steps than your using now and try them It is way easier to change the rods than the jets Been there done that for many years Another thing to check is the idle mixture screw adjustments, screw them slowly in until the motor starts to slow down and turn them out right at a 1/8 to 1/4 turn That will lean the idle mixture down some also Lots of tuning options available on those carbs

The kit I got doesn't have a 101 in it, it has 95 and 98 then goes to to 104. Could I put the 98 in it instead of the 101?

Where and how do I get and change the squirter?

7147 rods will make that car purr. Orange springs and put accelerator rod in top hole.
.104 primary, and .101 secondary
End of story.

this is worth a try, but from my experience, the big squirter has to go. after messing with a friends 800avs i've found that these carbs can be made to drive nicely and make power.

Edelbrock part number 1475 available thru Summit, Jegs or most speed shops.
Take a look at the picture and compare to your carb. They are in the primary of the carb at the top. Remove a couple of screws and replace nozzle and gasket with the size you would like. I had to put the largest accelerator pump nozzle in my 750 to get rid of a stumble, but I'm not sure what your needs are...

So I ended up and put 107's in the front and left the 104's in the back because I didn't have a 101 to put in the back. Just got to get my motor home and back in the car and see if it's better. Thanks Everyone for the help
