Mick, are you taking the trans apart and if so why? Did are favorite mechanic fail to do something properly?
no, not taking apart, IS apart.
got to the point where if the car wasn't rolling, was next to impossible to get it into first gear. for that matter, 2nd 3rd or 4th. i would have to fumble around until i could get it into any gear, and then it would go into 1st.
grodon thought that we hadn't got the snap ring holding first gear in the correct position, and so it and it's slider were loose on the shaft. turned out not to be the case. almost everything we saw was perfect, except for the slider drums. pretty beat up. sent the slider assemblies to passon, and i need new drums and keys, plus a little deburring work on the 1-2 slider. jamie isn't positive that these things caused my problems, but there is nothing else obvious.
should have the parts back next week, and then i'll assemble it. back in the car when it's not 40 degrees in the garage, (yeah, i know, i'm a wimp, can't handle the cold...), so, we'll see.
so what's another $400?
sigh....

like nothing i've ever felt before. no grinding at all, none. but when it was sticking, which was most but not all of the time, i physically could not get it into first, no matter how much pressure i put on it. it simply wouldn't go. i would have to get it into another gear before i could get it into first. note that this was only when stopped, when i was rolling it was slightly clunky, but fine.
also got to the point that when i power shifted into second, it felt completely engaged, but wasn't. good think i have a rev limiter...
we thought that maybe the drum was cocking in the slider, it was that worn. jamie didn't think so, but who knows...
