I run a Hoffman American machine to balance electric motor shaft and have balanced one crankshaft on my own and helped with a couple others. I'm doing my 318 shaft now and with it set up the balance computer wants me to remove 3.26 grams from damper end and 1.84 from the flex plate end. The factory had removed a small amount from the damper and a large amount from the flex ends.

Since my bob weights are all matched I would have thought I would need about the same amount from both ends if the shaft was originally correct.

Have any of seen this a lot in older shafts and could it be a difference in the damper since I don't have the original one for this shaft. I don't second guess myself when doing motor rotors so why now. Thanks

That is actually pretty close for a factory balance job. I have seen them off a lot more than that end to end.

Thanks I have mine balanced down to .2 in/oz at 1000 rpms with the computer program set for 5800 rpm operating speed, it should be real good at these numbers.

Also in the first post I stated grams, that's not correct it was ounces.
