I'm building a 72 scamp and wanting to know the length on the Rear end and wheel/tire combo. you guys have. I know the stock rear A-body is 52 1/2 long.

I am going to run Cal tracs, and mini tub the car, want to run a 10inch wheel and fit 275 drag radial under it, but also have room to run a 28/10.5 slick.

so post some rear lengths and tire size (or what you did to run this size tire combo.)

Thanks

what rear do you have now

If it's a stock "A" body
You may want to sell it
and build another 8 3/4 or Dana

Some people pay more money for a stock "A" rear..

If you are going to make any real power, Im sorry but the 8 3/4 will just just not hold up, might last longer foot breaking than geting on the trans break. And you dont have to spend $$$ on a Fab housing because thats the problem, either go Dana 60 or if you cant or dont want to spend the money go 9inch, (dana 60 are heavy) just my 2cents,

mini tub and spring relocation with a 275/60 is a piece of cake.

The right way to go is car tubbed, get wheels and tires you plan to use and measure mount to mount... no mistakes!

Wheel backspace plays a HUGE part of the equation.

That's what I did on my 69 Dart and 325s.

I had a 69 Valiant with a stock width A-body 8 3/4 rear under it and leaf springs moved in 3 ins. I ran 28/ 10.5 W's on 10 in. wheels under it with out mini tubbing it. You just have to buy the wheels with the correct back spacing.

1.33 60 ft,6.21 at 110.59 in the 1/8, pump gas small block,2950lbs,drag radials,mufflers and driven to track ...

Keep in mind that the Valiant has a MUCH bigger wheel opening than a Dart.

An 8" factory ramcharger wheel (4 1/4 or 4 1/2 BS) has pretty good clearance with everything stock, a little careful work and some backspace juggling might get you what you need.

It takes gasoline to interest me.

I currently have 8" ram charger wheels with 275 tires, I will use these to measure the housing length I need
But I think I will probably want a wider rim in the future so spring relocation and mini tubbing will most likely happen

Many years ago when I had small tires. Axle was 49" drum to drum. I had 29.5x10.5 ET streets on the car with springs moved into the frame. I ran a 15x10 wheel with a very short back space. It's easier to get the wheels and tires off the car with a short back space. The best thing to do is get the wheel and tire you plan on running and cut the rear to fit. It's the only way to make it right.
