Anyone know the weight difference between a Duster and a Scamp? If your comparing the same model and drivetrain in each, how much weight difference is there between the 2?

NHRA says a 71 Scamp 318 is 4 pounds heavier than a 71 Duster with a 318. 2884 shipping on the Scamp, 2880 shipping on the Duster.

The Scamp has an 111" wheelbase as compared to 108" for the Duster/Demon/Dart Sport. I'd expect the Scamp/Dart to pack more than 4 pounds over. The roofline of the Scamp/Dart is wider and longer which certainly adds weight. The floorpan is longer, the drive shaft is longer, fuel and brake lines too. The Scamp/Dart has roll up rear windows as opposed to simple pop outs on the Duster. I'd be surprised if the Scamp wasn't at least 50 lbs heavier.

Go to nhraracer.com then to Stock Car Classification on the left side under the Tech area. Click on Plymouth 1971 open the PDF file and scan down to line 253 and 255. Scan over to the right and read the weights under the engines with the single * . That is for the stock class cars. Note that the 340 Duster weighs 274 pounds more than the 318 Duster. I can't explain that either but I don't know any other way to find the weight online. As an aside, they show a similar Demon at 2884 and the Dart Swinger at 2893.

I am not saying that you are personally wrong, just that I doubt the accuracy of your source. I may be wrong.

340 car would have a 727, 318 would have a 904. 340 would have an 8.75 rear, Standard trans 318 also has an 8.75. 318 auto has a 7.25. 340 car also has a beefier spring pack. Even so, 274 pounds sounds like a lot.

Intake manifold, 4-bbl carb, exhaust manifolds, dual exhaust, wheels/tires/spare, and plenty of other heavier parts on a 340 as compared to a 318.

The funny thing about science is that if you change one miniscule parameter you change the entire outcome to the way you want it.

I have a 71 scamp and a 71 duster.
The 71 scamp has fiberglass bumpers, hood, seats, a 360 w/aluminum intake, and headers with short exhaust.
The 71 duster has an all cast iron motor, full exhaust, all steel exterior and a full interior with a roll bar and subframe connectors. The duster is still 220lbs lighter.

When looking at NHRA weights you need to keep in mind that NHRA "factors" in horsepower on certain cars and not on others so the "factored weight" will be different than the actual factory shipping wieghts if that cars motor has been factored, which 340 have been heavily factored for a long time especially the 1971-73 340 and 1970 340 6 pak Challengers

The closest I could come was from a July 2000 article in HP Mopar magazine on power to weight ratios. Says a 1970 340 Dart is 3179 while a 1970 340 Duster is 3110.
