Hey guys,

My wife's 05 Town and Country 3.8 V6 starts, runs a few seconds and dies. Fuses look good, any ideas what else it might be? Appreciate any troubleshooting advice.

Thanks!
Randy

A dirty fuel filter and/or fuel pump will act that way. Harbor freight has a fuel pressure tester kit for less than 20 bucks, thats always handy to have around.

Define 'stalls out'?

is it a quick die or more of a slow shutdown?
Ignition drop out and it dies instantly.
fuel loss and it takes a second or two to die.

When it starts to die shoot some carb cleaner in the air cleaner and see if it continues to run, if it does, you need to ck fuel system.

If it dies anyway your loosing spark

Ps there is a relay bank underhood , drivers side next to the battery.

start it while your hand is laying on top of the relays themselves.

pay close attention to when the ASD and fuel pump relays when the relays 'click off'.

If the relays click THEN it dies something is shuting them down.

If it dies THEN then they click, your probably loosing fuel pressure and/or ignition side

A quick test is switch the ASD , then the Fuel pump relays ( one at a time) with the AC relay and see what happens ,provided the ac works properly obviously.

Thanks, good info guys!! Seems the culprit was a lost key that was chipped. It won't run without it. The wife was trying to use a cheapo replacement key we had made to just unlock it and had forgotten that it wouldn't run the car.

Luckily, she found her missing key. $200 from the dealer for a new one, and we would have to tow the car there, so that would have been a bad day.

Just had a key made at a local key maker/locksmith for a chipped ford truck. Cost 40 bucks.

He told me how to setup my new key with the truck. Need both original keys and then the third new one and new key will be chipped the same so it works after sticking them in the ignition and turning them on for a moment and then swapping keys real fast, with each key, new one last. Haven't done it yet but that's what he told me.

In that case, if you want another key, it will have to be programmed by a dealer.

It's Swifty! Swifty, you toad sucker!

Check local locksmiths. They are usually cheaper than dealers for programming a chip key.

Locksmith can't program the key. You have to have access to the 4 digit pin number and the proper equipment to program them. You can only get the pin number from Chrysler. I work in a dealer parts dept.

Locksmiths around here make a phone call (probably to the dealer) and get the code. I've had keys made for two different Mopars this way in the past few years.
