A friend was looking at a decent '72 and sent me pictures to get my opinion. I saw that the rallye wheels had what I call "scalloped" center caps and not the "round nose" caps that I am familiar seeing on A bodies with small bolt pattern hubs.
Part of my response was to check to see if the brakes had been upgraded and if the wheels were large bolt pattern. He thought I was nuts, and how could I detect a bolt pattern from a picture?
Since I know that '72 was the last of the KH discs and the 4" BC on all A's I had assumed the car was wearing 4.5" wheels due to the center cap design.
Later my friend sends me a link to year one, and there was a scalloped cap for 4" rallye wheels. I had never seen this, and I've been looking at this stuff with passion for 30 years!
So, what I'm asking here is, did I get schooled? was there a mid year change with these 4" caps? or does year one put out a cap that never came from Mother?
Thanks in advance!

Yep, a one year only center cap. Here is a pic of an original set I have.

One year only? Rallyes weren't available on drum brake 73-76 A bodies?

Good point! Drums were still small bolt through 76. I stand corrected.

That's why I specifically said that '72 was the last year 4" BC on ALL A bodies.

Thanks for clearing up the fog for me guys!

While they were an extra cost option on all A-Body's through 76 I seriously doubt anyone would order them, so I still consider them 72 only. Though I am sure the factory threw them on some cars to get rid of them.

The funny thing about science is that if you change one miniscule parameter you change the entire outcome to the way you want it.
