I swear I read in one of the mopar mags that you could drill and tap the fixed secondary metering plates for jets and plug the stock holes ? I think Greg Rager did the article.

Can it be done or am I mixed up here ?

I have new 600 vacumm secondary carbs and I will be using them on a crossram

I don't want to use the thicker block or the billet block's that are available - has to look stock

I did it once way back. If you look at the plate you can see where to drill/tap. I dont remember where exactly as it was decades ago

I remember reading an article about that but the guy was doing the mods for his SS Ford 427 carbs.
I think it was an old issues of SS&DI
It involved drilling the plates and plugging the jet orifices on the bottom. Then you tap the holes for std.Holley jets and a small washer for correct spacing.

Correct, you would need to plug the orifices that are already there for flow or you'd have near double volume. Trace the maze on the side & you'll see where to drill/tap. 10-32 tap iirc

Drill and tap them for #10-32 thread. Get a small drill index and some brass set screws and make an adjustable set of "jets" without sealer on the threads to keep out of internal passages.

ditto! I've drill and tapped them before but the quickfuel option is better. also lets you play with the idle feed restriction.

I used one on a 1850-2 600cfm carb and also added the adjustable vac pod from quik fuel.

the conversion plates are good and help keep size of the smaller 4160 carbs or a cheater plate in class rules that do not allow rear meter blocks.

my other 1850 got a AED 4160 to 4150 conversion that replaced the plate with a rear block and longer transfer tube along with a adjustable vac pod for less than 80$

another good upgrade is the billet meter blocks and mod the base plate for 4 corner idle less than 100$ or add a billet base plate for another 100$

The Quickfuel kit with the notched float is the good choice

thanks everyone - I posted because I was told (in error) that QF only offers a plate for center hung float's.

My fault for asking at the counter instead of researching it myself
