A couple of questions, are the Aluminium drums for 904's based on the A999 5 clutch pack drum?
Second, what mods are required to run one of these drums in a 904?

Do you know who's aluminum drum you're looking at? The steel jacket drum is a good option as the full aluminum one's wear fairly easy compared to a steel one.

The TCS AL 904 drum is nice. They also sell a steel drum. They have a 24 spring return spring module too. As far as I know it drops in. You can ask their tech line to be sure.

In order to use the factory 5-disc drum in a 904 you also need the matching front pump (or at least the back half of one) for the added clearance.

Thanks John, that ultimately answered my question. I am going to make most of the components for my trans and just needed to know whether to take my dimensions from a 904 or 999 high/reverse drum.
Does anyone have a picture of a A999 front pump? I am just curious to how much it is clearanced.

Nope, the "milled flat" hub is only on the A500 '96 and later.

Would that be the same drum and pump in a lockup 904? Vintage 1987?
