Every Dish Top for the 440 I have seen (web site/catalog pics) have valve reliefs cut in to it. does any one sell any with out any edges, marks, cuts or reliefs?

EDIT: The best I have seen are reverse dome tops, the bevel could be smooth/rounded out but, but, it still have flat part on one side.

Why don't you want valve reliefs?

Well, art is art, isn't it? Still, on the other hand, water is water! And east is east and west is west and if you take cranberries and stew them like applesauce they taste much more like prunes than rhubarb does. Now, uh... Now you tell me what you know.

I don't understand why the request, but many piston manufacturers will give you one or two changes for a nominal fee. That change could be leaving out the valve notches.

Thank you i will keep that in mind!

You know what happens to edges and sharp edge in the combustion chamber? They get hot, hotter than the other parts. Think about a heat sink, why do heat sinks have some any edges and lines?

Well after so much compression that hot edge can cause per-detonation. So if your shoving LBS and LBS and pressure in there in bumping up the pressure at TDC and pushing the flashpoint of the fuel and that hot edge is there ...hotter than rest of the parts it might cause it to go boom before the spark plug fires.

regarding the sharp edges, I spend ALOT of time deburring them extensively on piston tops

My old 451 Stroker had full circular dish to lower the compression with the 65cc B1 B/S heads. They were ROSS pistons ordered by Muscle Motors (they built the short block for me.)

I think you're overthinking the issue. Rounding and smoothing should eliminate any hot spots.

Go on ebay and look at the NASCAR used pistons for sale to see what professional racers, who are at 14:1 or whatever the limit is nowadays, do.

I would use a D-shaped dish (inverted dome) and leave a squish area even if you're using open chamber heads right now, because if you switch later they'll work better.

Checking that out now. Can you explain that a little more? what designates an "open" head? what do you mean by switching later? Some stuff i know and some stuff i don't (i know i probably sound insane)

closed chambers (915/516) have a bowl area and open chambered heads (906 & others) have that bowl plus a recessed shelf area (.100" deep). See if you can Google pics. If you have plateau pistons then if you later switch to closed chambered heads you can either achieve quench or at least be able to work with the CC's to get the SCR in a comfortable range

here we go,

it sounds like open chamber would be decent for forced induction?
