I've read more than a few times that if your kickdown linkage it not adjusted properly, that it can be harmful to the transmission. How so?

How many positions does the lever on the transmission (727) have?

The lever can only be positioned one way on its shaft but there is a wide variety of lever designs.

What is the proper level for a 383/727 combo?

this has to do with adjustment, not witch lever.

You will need the correct lever to fit , as well as the rest of the linkage.as said there were many designs you must have the proper set not just the proper lever. They varried by year as well as body style. Try to find some one locally that can set you up with the whole linkage from the desired engine tranny combo.
shouldn't be to hard. Look in the parts for sale section here too.
