I'm getting down on tread on my Et Streets, they're down to the wear bars. I've seen guys running the completely bald. So my question is when should I replace them?I'm hoping can get one more season out of them then I'll be happy.

Replace them when your 60 ft falls off. That's if you are talking strictly racing. If you are talking legality for the street the when you hit the wear bars it's done.

Thanks that's what I figured. I've already pretty much decided that I should only use them at the track or very limited local street use just wasn't sure when to consider them completely junk.

I think I'll replace them before the cords are showing. But 8.30s is inpressive on worn out drag radials.

I've never seen cord on any of the sets I've used I have had several sets that had a lot less of the side grooves left than yours and no cords showing when removed

This is correct.. being you are running the ET streets
I assume you run the streets... if a cop sees cords
hanging out he CAN give you a ticket.. and most likely
will.. and thats not talking about rain on the roads

Agreed. I had mine for about 3 years, they worked exceptionally well... however, when I got to the wear bars, my 60' times went south. I have a 2nd set of rims with T/A radials for street now and bought a set of M/T slicks which I rarely use on the street that are on the 15x10 rims. I noticed small bits/chunks of rubber missing exposing the cords on the drag radials from driving on the street... uhhhh, no thanks. Whatever you do, just be safe.

Don't replace them until you see the cords showing.

Major bad idea IMO. It's why tires have wear bars or depth holes. I'm sure M/T ( if he was still alive ) would shat a brick on that one. You guys that run them to the cords are - pretty brave.

There was only a single afternoon between the wear bars starting to touch and the cords showing thru on mine….. and a half a tank of gas.

It sounds crazy, but every racer I know on radials does the same thing. From my experience, once the center "tread" (the two grooves) is gone, the tire is only a little over half used up. Mine will still 60 foot consistently right up until I replace them.

This is exactly the feed back I was hoping to get. I hardly ever use them on the street because the first road trip I ever took on them we hit rain and I got 2 ft sideways at 60-65 MPH on the e-way. After that I got another pair of rims n I run 31/10.5/15 son the street now plus they help a little with gearing as I'm sure you all know 4.10s aren't the greatest highway gears. Thanks for everyone's input!

I just replaced mine, they were 7 years old. They were dry rotted/cracked in the treads. Still had plenty of tread left but I didn't feel comfortable racing them like that.

For what its worth, M/T site suggests replacement after 4 years.

Would you run your daily driver over 100 mph with the cords showing on the tires??
