Hi, I have an MT2500 scanner but my primary cartridge stops at 2000. I've been going into genII for later models. I tried to scan a 05 F150 and it says no comm. I want to but a newer cartridge and I see some with a can obd2 adapter. whats the adapter and and ideas why the no comm on the F150? thanks

I believe the Ford products went to Multiplexing (CAN Controller Area Network)in 2005. Even the factory Ford testers take a different cable and software upgrade. Did you check the fuses? Some of the older Fords actually used the cigar fuse to power up the ALDL.

I think we are close to OBDIII now. May want to wait on a upgrade???

thank you. i will check the fuses tomorrow. there's a cartridge for sale that says it's good through 08 and comes with the can adapter. i should probably buy it if it's programmed.

Just had this conversation with my snap on dealer friday.WE use one at work.
Some 04 fords,taurus,lincoln,f 150.and more cars in 05 require a CAN connector.$205 plus tax.but you also need the updated software to support it.There is an 08 update cartridge.(If you have the black-programable cartridges),then updates with the CAN connector will be about $1200.NO more updates available for this scanner.trade in value is about $300-400.offered $500 to my boss since we are updated too 2004.
New basic code reader-updatable.NON bye-directional is about $1600.
solus pro-replaces the mt2500 is about $3600.I bought a mt2500 new(personal use) -still looks like new,plastic still on the screen-no smudges.worthless.updates for me since I don't have the black cartridges overexceed the cost I bought this for

for the cost of updating it, you are better off to buy a more modern generic obd2 code reader.

They come on sale periodically, so a decent one can be had for around 100 bucks.

With most newer obd2 stuff, the code, tells you as much or more than the live data ever will.

Even updatd the snap on can't do most of the good stuff the oem ford tool can(I work at a ford store)
