Found out last night that the vent hole location on e-body axle housings changed at some point. The axle housing I replaced the original with has a breather hole about 2-3 inches further inboard!

When did that happen - and why I wonder....?

Was all fired up to get it out on the road this weekend but will now be looking for the correct brake lines to work with this different setup.

The vent location did not change.

You probably have a '65-'69 C-body housing. C and E body housings share the same 46" spring perch dimension, but the angle differs. In addition, the C-body housing end flange is a tad taller and the housing is a tad wider.

Thanks Cass I learned something new!

For any interested parties, here is a pic of a 65-69 C-body housing on the left and a 70-74 e-body housing on the right. Vent hole location is different. Perch position common to housing tubes differ causing e-body assembly third member position to aim a few degrees upwards. The length and distance between leaf spring perches is the same between the two.

I used my sons high tech work bench to help in setting up the comparison shot!

To add to that for non B/E body people reading this, the A-body vent location changed at some point too. Forgot which year?
