hi
im running a 66 440 w/stock oil pan. engine runs great but i just pulled it to repaint it. it doesnt have a windage tray in it. it doesnt leak know and i don't want to open a case of worms but would like to install a windage tray while the engin is out. good idea or bad? whats involved? and what are the chances of leaks? thanks

also whats the best tray to use with the stock 5 quart oil pan?

i dont know which is best, but if its a mild engine then the mp tray probably works as well as any.chrysler used to say it was worth up to 15 hp at 6000.and since it was designed for a stock pan it would be a good choice. its not a bad idea to take a screwdriver and pry open the slots a little more.

On a 440 the tray mounts between the pan and block using 2 gaskets. The Milodon piece is far superior as it allows much better drain-back than the solid MP piece does. The MP can and is often modified but for the extra dollars the Milodon is the deal IMO.

I installed the Milodon in my 383. Nice product.

I have a Direct Connection tray, two gaskets always leak ,,,,,,,, solution is easy just cut the flange off the tray and have it weld into the pan ,,,,,,,,, did that over 20 years ago still have the car and zero problems,,,,,,,,,, pan even comes off with motor in the car....l

I picked one up from Summit today (I love living 30 miles from one of their outlets). I also snagged two Milodon gaskets. Do you install them dry or with a touch of RTV for best results?
