Can the Carter/AVS support 650-700hp?

There really is not much information about making good power with these carbs and the guys who are don't say much about what it takes to get these carbs supporting 650+hp.

Is there anyone who knows how to work over these carbs?
Has anyone made power in the 650hp ball park with a single AVS that is willing to get into detail about these carbs? (I.e: machine work, boosters, more cfm, fuel distrobution)

The strip kits just won't cut it for me.

I'm a big Carter fan but unless you are running dual carbs I'd go with a Holley. Now excuse me while I go recover from that statement. Actually Holley's are great for big horsepower single carb systems.

Id like to get away with as much as I can c.i wise. Don't want to spin the motor too high. 6500-7000rpm. I haven't started anything yet! I want to know if the power I want is achievable with an AVS and if it is, who is the go to guy? I'll decide on the rest later.

I am an "outside the box" kind of thinker. If I just want to go fast I'll buy up a set of Indy heads and a Holley but the funnest part of racing for me is the build and tune. I like a challenge. I like the element of surprise! 10's with a single AVS on a "stocker" motor, now that's cool! 10's with an Indy head stroker and big carb, see it every time I go to the track. It gets boring when everyone is doing the same thing.

At Norwalk this past weekend I ran 9.18@146 with 2 of them. There was a 604" Hemi RR that ran 8.80's with 2 of them there as well. Both sets of carbs had only the chokes removed.

The best guy I could think of would be AndyF, who did a number of dyno tests using an Edelbrock 800.
Get his book or read some articles at www.arengineering.com
