OK..........I've been thinking again I like the idea of DragWeek, but honestly, outside of watching the 3 heavy hitters, it's not extremely entertaining from a spectator's point of view..........If you watch the live feed, it's basically just watching time trials all day and there is NO racing......Other than the Daily Driver Bracket class at the end of the week, there's NO racing.........Am I the only one that doesn't go to a race just to watch time trails??? Time trails are OK if you're a car person, but they're not like actually racing... Wouldn't it be more entertaining if people actually race??? Here's my idea for a "Race" style Drag Week......... Basically leave the classes as they are.......but when they show up at the track, there are NO time trials (or maybe 1 at the most)......Names are pulled from a hat and everyone is put on a ladder to race.......First named pulled runs the second name pulled........Third name pulled runs the fourth name pulled and so on..........Then put the names on a ladder...... CLOCKS OFF.......at the end of the day, there is a winner.......Points are awarded for first, second and so on.......Do that at every track and at the end of the week, there's a winner........ Now, THAT would be entertaining......... The reason for no clocks is it gives the races more excitement than knowing that so-and-so has so-and-so covered by 4 tenths.....The AVERAGE spectator really doesn't need to know what the cars are running to have fun watching (just like Street Outlaws)......... Anyone else think this is a good idea, or am I out in left field again???..........
If you can't handle the truth, you're living a lie.......

nope I am with you, but here's my version of drag week.
no trailers no tools hoods are sealed shut once you arrive. no tire swapping DOT tires. if you can't make the trip you are not a street car.
You sure wont have the quick cars with those rules

Larson won 5 times with no trailer, and without changing tires...
I'm not gonna say he had a LOT of help... but I HAVE SEEN all sorts of people working on his car in the past.. all those parts just dont magically appear.. but your right.. HE didnt drag a trailer.. seen him go by us at 80+ mph on the E-way

I don't leave the house without at least some tools...be it on the pedal bike, motorbike or the hot rod...
I agree with Wayne though, classes and rules are fine, but instead of time trials all day, organize each class into a bracket at each track. It would be time consuming, however, far more entertaining.
It wouldnt be that hard after the first day... they give out the spread sheet to see where you stand so put up the ladder on it

The National Mustang Racers Association does something like this and I've seen 8 second cars in the few events I've seen live.
You can bring the car to the track how you want and can bring anything you want with it (tools, ext.) but, they take you on a police escorted 35 or 45 mile drive and once you leave you can not touch the car or open the hood or you are DQ'd. The drive is to prove that your car is a true street car and can make it without breaking down. All cars must run on DOT street tires. I ran it once and it was a bunch of fun. They pull you right back into the track down the staging lanes and you get 5 or so minutes to cool down and then run three back to back passes. The winners are the closes to an average of 15.0, 14.0, 13.0, ext.
You could make the rules a little different if you wanted but this class in NMRA has been growing the last few years and is a blast to watch too. There were over 200 cars in the class this year at Norwalk when I went up.

Try running 1000-1200 miles

Drag Week is NOT about racing and never has been. It is about reliability and pushing your stuff to the max and making it survive the trip. Why does there have to be a "Winner" everyday. To what point. That proves neither that you are the fastest or quickest, only that you got the win that day. Rarely does the fastest car win on a given day.
Drag Week is just fine like it is. It is a "performance contest" much the same as Bonneville and that little event seems to be doing just fine as well
Monte
I understand that....and that's why there are only 5,000 people, at one time, world wide watching the live feed...
The reason I believe there should be a winner is the same reason that we don't just compare qualifying time slips and declare a winner at any kind of headsup race...and, like I'd already mentioned, from a spectator's point of view, the live feed is boring to watch outside of watching the top 3 or so cars and rooting for a few favorites or friends...
I'm not knocking any of the participant's accomplishments, all I'm saying is that to make it more entertaining for spectators, there should be actual racing....

Anyone that says you shouldn't get a hit at the track, has never drag raced. Track prep can be all over the place. They deserve to see what they have to work with before running. They have a bunch of classes, get in where you fit in. I considered running it when I had my twin turbo vipers, but wouldn't have been competitive. I could have ran without a trailer on a real 20" invo street tire and run 8.80's on a good track. The problem, a bad track would have me run 11's. Forcing people into real street tires is a great idea, if the track conditions are right for it. When they aren't, it makes a death trap. That's why they edited my run on pass time. Someone forgot to prep the track past 300'. Car got totally sideways, almost lost it.
Only reason I suggested zero or one test pass is because that's how it's typically done in grudge racing.....it puts a lot more excitement and the car's owner's tuning ability into the mix......
I've got no problem with trailers and slicks and supplies if someone wants to haul that stuff....I've driven my street cars to the track a bunch and swapped tires and brought tools to make some runs.....
If you can't handle the truth, you're living a lie.......
