Put the 1st 500 miles on the transmission and this is the filter that was removed. Is this normal?

Was a new converter installed ?? Iron filings are never good to see, but it depends on how "clean" the rebuild was.

All new tci trans and converter. Everything shifts and feels fine, just thought it was unusual.

Just checked it all with magnet and about 1/4 of the debris is magnetic. Going to fill it up and take it for test drive.

I'd go with the clean the screen and put it back together route.

I'd also switch to a felt type filter, while the brass offer higher flow; the Dacron one will catch smaller particles.

It looks like the transmission was not very clean?
Anyhow, just replace the filter and put a magnet in the corner of the trans pan.
