Noticed the odd wear pattern on the RF of my '06 2500 4x4 CTD. Obviously a ball joint or wheel bearing. Any known problem with this? Probably jack it up tomorrow to check it out. Any preference on parts?
Thanks,

Tim

Arent those solid axle front ends? If so there must be some sort of bent component.

They use a sealed unit bearing on the front. Its sold as a complete unit, they can be a pain to replace if they have seized.

They are a known wear item, especially if you run a larger than stock tire.

Haven't had a chance to check it yet (being retired is great ).

Still has BJs and a unit wheel bearing.

Stock tires (except for a brief time when I had some 285 Muds on it). From what I've been able to find, it can be either BJs or the wheel bearing assembly. Neat video on youtube about how to push the hub out.

Generally speaking, worn front end parts usually cause tires to wear on the inside edge, not the outside edge. There may be a toe in (or toe out) issue, or something may be bent, or the tire itself may have an issue. Wearing on the outside edge is kind of unusual. Is the LF showing any edge wear? I Think I'd be leaning towards a tire issue, maybe a belt in the tire has shifted, especially if the other front tire shows normal wear. Gene

You gotta quit piling in to those left turns at such high speeds maybe.

Found a loose wheel bearing. New one enroute from RockAuto ($160 I didn't want to spend ). Hopefully that takes care of the problem.

Took it down a stretch of highway known as "Tail of the Dragon" (U.S. 129) while we were going to Pigeon Forge, TN once (U.S. 441 over the mountains was closed). Bikers dream with over 300 curves in about 11 miles. Not fun in a 2500 CTD 4x4.
