Help! My 200 Sebring has developed a problem where it will crank over but won't start. Repair shop thought it was fuel pump. About a week after $260 repair it does it again. After several episodes I have figured out it happens after rain storms. Most times, after repeated tries at cranking it if often stumbles and after pumping gas pedal will eventually start. Any ideas will be helpful. It is supposed to rain again!

You first need to figure out if you are losing fuel or if it is losing fire. You did not say if it were a 2.5 v-6 or 4 cylinder. If it's a 2.5 I would bet its a firing issue. They commonly have distributor issues. Since it does it only after raining I would check the hood to cowl seal for leakage. The distributor lives under that area and could be getting wet causing your problem.

It's fuel injected. Pumping the gas pedal does not do a thing. Holding the pedal to the floor will do a clear flood if flooded (stops the injectors from spraying fuel)Yes, that vehicle does have a distributor cap and rotor, and wires. Not the most fun to do. To do the wires you need to pull the upper intake off. The distributor is also prone to failure. It has module, coil housed inside the distributor. pricey ignition system.

Considering the fact that wet weather is involved it is starting to sound like car and wires to me. By the way, check engine light never comes on and the computer never throws a code. Thanks again for the imput.

So it looks like cap, rotor and wires are in order. Going to do plugs while I'm in there and think I'll need gaskets. Anybody think of anything else I should do while I'm in there?

I bet wires too, my Dakota did that one day after a rain, turning it over at night with the hood up after a rain looked like a lightening show.
