just bought a professionally restored radio, plugged it in and it works great but my concern is that there is no light when I turn on the headlights. Is the light internal or a seperate extrernal light that plugs into the radio some place.

The orange wire is for the lamp. The bulb is in a socket located on the passenger side of the radio. You can check out the lamp with an ohm meter. Check for continuity between the orange wire and the case of the radio. A good lamp will show continuity or low resistance. Make sure you disconnect the power to the radio before doing the check. You can also check for power on the orange wire going to the radio.

The bulb plugs in on the side of the radio. I usually install the 1893 bulb or the 1816, there are a couple other numbers that will work fine as well.
