Did the 17" aluminum rims on the Dakota R/T come in bright/polished finish or painted silver? I just picked one up and unfortunate the IDIOT rattle can painted them black.

As far as I know they were painted silver and it was pretty tough. I was going to polish mine but in the end left them.

I could be wrong but I pretty sure that the last year of the Dakota R/T they had chrome wheels, they were painted silver all years prior. The reason I remember that is that I had a 99 std cab and a 2000 extended cab Dakota R/T, both has silver wheels. I believe it was 2002 they put chrome wheels on the R/T's and I really wanted to get the chrome wheels for mine. A good website for Dakota R/T's http://dakotart.com/
Kayse can't keep up at all now. lol

I think the silver was some kind of poly coating. It was pretty durable.
Take some stripper and try taking the black off, the silver may still be there.

I'd start with lacquer thinner and see what it does. Spray paint may not be stuck very well.

Wish it were Plasti dip. The guy was way too cheap for that... The stupid stuff the kid did to this truck is beyond words.

My point is what makes him an idiot for doing what he wants to his own truck. Just because it doesn't fit your idea of a customized vehicle doesn't make him an idiot. It just means he has different tastes than you do. Not everyone lives in the same square box.
Sorry Stumpy. You are correct. Some people live in a box with nothing but ductape, bubblegum, bailing wire, sheetrock screws, a sawsall, a hammer, spray bombs, a rope (to tie one leg and one arm behind their back), a blindfold and a bottle of Jack Daniels because honestly, that's the ONLY way someone with half a mechanical mind or common sense could possibly do what's been done all over this truck. I should have given the previous owner the benefit of the doubt. I am ashamed that I thought otherwise. Let me just stop now and apologize to this obvious mechanical and artistic genius for what I said about all the cool things he's done to this truck that a monkey with a head injury would not do.
Vlad and others, thanks for the info. I've always liked these rims and the R/T is a super fun little hotrod.
I’m listening.

Do you really give a rat's behind, Stumpy or are you just here to piss on my post and argue? I'll tell you why if you have something redeeming to contribute.

Got a GREAT deal, and the guy who owned it wasn't the owner who did the hillbilly repairs.
