I was under a 2006 Ford Ranger 4x4 they other day when I noticed it also has a torsion bar suspension.
As do late model Chevy trucks and a few other light duty SUVs. There is no shortage of t-bar manufacturers with the proliferation of t-bars in newer vehicles. Problem is getting them to tool up a bar specific to a vintage Mopar.
Yes my 2007 Suburban has them too but they are too long, the ranger ones seemed to be the correct length for B/E-Bodys. That's why they caught my attention. Most likely cheap at wrecking yards and if you machine them anyhow to fit the socket you could adjust the clocking as well. If I didn't already spring for 1.120" I would give it a try. Also I wonder if thicker ones are available for different sized engines?
Are the hexes offset?
I never noticed? It was hard to get an accurate length measurement too.

I see prices ranging from $190 - $300 for those (new) bars. Pretty stiff for a mass-produced item.
but should be available for much less at a wrecking yard (the Astro bars).

I really feel that my car needs a thicker bar than 1.12". I don't like the way it bounces over bumps. Maybe it will feel different if I lose more front end weight.
How big of bumps is your Cuda jumping over?

Come on guys, I don't make a lot of money. But for what we are asking these bars to do and the experience that Firm Feel offers along with the bars, I don't think $300.00 $400.00 is too much to ask for our small party.
True. And given the limited number of t-bar rates out there, I suggest setting up the front first, then backing into matching rear rates as leaf springs are much easier to get customized.
However, we do suffer in comparison to other makes that have springs from 150# to 1500# in 50# increments for $100 a pair. IMO, its just part of being a mopar guy. If it bothers you that much, you can always put in coil overs or do what kotacars suggests and convert your Mopar to use DSE components.

Probably what it is. Although I am only 4 clicks from the stiffest setting. Going to lose front end weight first before changing out any torsion bars.

You are pretty much on the money from where we see it. That said, everyone has a different idea of how they want their car to ride handle. We like a sportier suspension, not all out race ride. A ride quality to an M3 or AMG for example. The ride should be smooth and compliant, but the harder you push, the more your suspension should be there. Give the driver confidence.
My biggest concern with the big bar argument is the chassis. If the suspension can't move, the body will. Also, impacts will be transmitted to the occupants of the car. My car as well as Mitch's are a lot better preserved than a lot of the cars that are out there, however I still have done a fantastic job of tearing out and blowing up pieces of my car. Your mileage may vary. When we build and design parts and make the tuning suggestions we do, it's not based on "what that one guy was able to get away with with that one car that one time." We have to base line our product over an entire fleet of cars and thousands of customers. Most of which may be starting with less than ideal 40 year old cars. The great thing about what we have brought to market is a truly modular system that allows the end user to have a well balanced car that will meet or exceed the needs of 95% of the market.

How does it "bounce" over bumps? Can you describe what kind of bump you are referring to, and how does it feel?
I drove my car around again to figure out exactly what I was talking about. It is when the front end goes over a dip or a bump and comes back down that it feels like it takes a moment for everything to settle. It feels like I can't really steer for that brief moment and I'm just holding on for the ride.
It's really just me nit-picking. My other car is an S2000 CR that I am constantly comparing my Cuda to. I've never driven an M3 or AMG but they probably feel like a boat compared to my stiff little Honda. Don't get me wrong though the Cuda's suspension feel great! One of my S2000 track buddies was laughing at it but after he drove it around some turns, he finally understood how fun the car is haha!
It is a testament of the factory torsion bar suspension and changes Hotchkis has done to it.

Yeah in the process of doing exactly that as we speak since I have a trackday Sept. 20th. I have a bunch of days to tighten any loose ends. No idea where UCAs were made but they are Hotchkis. Why does it matter?

Depending on the production date there have been a couple revisions to the design. When you replace the UCA heims, its a good time to upgrade.
