I'm thinking about buying a superchips tuner for my 99 ram with a 5.9 gas engine and would like some feedback before I make a purchase. I've read only good things and wonder if you really get those kind of results. They are claiming something like 49 hp and 59 ft. lbs torque. Can I expect those results as well. I just bought the Hughe's engine's lower intake plate and have solved all of my drivability issues with the exception of having enough power. All of the pinging, oil consumption, hi idle etc. is gone. I was using 2-3 quarts every 4-500 miles and now I don't use a single drop of oil. Just needing some feedback.

My experience is cut those figures in half if everything else is stock.

superchip? do you mean the entire box? I bought a MP box for my 95 5.2 Dakota. It worked great, picked every bit of the 38hp advertised. Only down side is you MUST run at least 91 or it will ping. Even w/ 93 at the track mine would rattle. It loved 104.

He's talking about a handheld tuner made by superchips. http://superchips.com/

just say no to superchips.

you want SCT, which you can get custom tuned to your truck, with your mods, not a one size fits all "close" tune.

want to add a cam that idles with 8" of vacuum? no problem. boost? no problem. build up a 408? go for it! just a stock motor? same answer.

I'm leaning towards the superchips tuner. I will never need a custom tune. My truck is a 3/4 ton 4x4 and will never need a custom tune. I've been messing with it to get the best mileage and performance before any programmer would be used. I can get over 24 mpg on the highway while running at 55 with the cruise set. And it's a 360. I've installed the plenum plate from Hughes, full tune up, new upstream o2, cleaned out the cat. I can also average over 20 in the city. My only future plans will be a flowmaster exhaust, and I'll do the crank sensor modification. After those I'll do the superchips programmer.

my 98 1500 360 2wd barely gets 16mpg at the best & only mods it has are the Hughes airgap intake manifold & true duel exhaust & 3.90 gear

I thought some of you naysayers would say that. I have a picture to prove it. And I also calculate when I fill up also. The picture isn't clear but it says 23.6 and it climbed to 24.1. That was after driving 25 miles on the interstate @ 55 with the cruise on. I consistently saw 18+ before the 02 and convertor cleaning. Say whatever you want, I drive like I have some sense, take off very easy and run 55 with the cruise on. If I drive stupid I can consistently get 12-14. I've repeated this time and time again, and I'm enjoying my extra money saved from not having a heavy right foot!

For a minute I thought it was April fools day. If you lived closer I would make a bet and we would go for a ride.

As soon as I get to where I can drive again after my surgery I'll post a video and prove it. I don't believe it myself.

Flat ground fill tank to the brim, drive 100 miles and refill. Hand calculate. Diesels don't get what you are getting. I sold and drove those trucks for a living. I know what they get.

On a side note with your tuning magic you should go into business as being able to achieve a 100 percent increase in fuel mileage will make you a rich man.

I'm gonna call bs on the 24 mpg too. Hand calculate your mileage and I would be impressed if you got half of what the overhead lie-O-meter says. One of those trucks couldn't get 24 mpg loaded on a trailer being hauled by something else.

The picture is very hard to read but if you push that US/M buttom on the left now what does it say? I think it says ECO L/100KM under your number.... And that would make sense.

I think it could be possible driving 55 on level ground with the cruise set and 3.55s but it is going to drop off hard as you speed up or encounter hills or speed up and down with traffic... of course you got to figure out how much your time is worth to know if your saving anything (probably not). On a 3 hour trip it will cost you 45 minutes VS driving 70-75 mph. Is that worth it to save a gallon or two of fuel?

In my experience with the overhead meters they are typically around %5 + or - of reality with a couple way outside that.

I am not causing global warming, I am just trying to hold off a impending Ice Age!

its on us, I did the metric thing at first. it said it was in the 30's and I knew something wasn't right. I can barley type because of my shoulder. when I hit a hill it drops a few tenths that's all.
